John R. Clements

1868 - 1946 Author of "My Strength, My Son" in Hallowed Hymns, New and Old John R. Clements was born in County Armagh, Ireland 28 November 1868 and was brought to the United States at the age of two years. He worked at the age of thirteen as a retail grocery clerk and had a successful wholesale grocery business. He began writing poetry when he was young. 1874 - 1915 Composer of "[O blessed Christ, to Thee I come]" in Hallowed Hymns, New and Old Ira Allan Sankey, 1874-1915 Born: August 30, 1874, Edinburgh, Scotland. Died: December 30, 1915, United States. Son of Ira Sankey, Allen studied civil engineering and architecture at Princeton University, graduating in 1897. In 1898, he became president of the Biglow & Main music publishers in New York City. He also served as vice-president of the Leeds and Catlin Phonograph Company, and on the Advisory Board of the Greenich Bank.
