A Psalm of David

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 27 First Line: The Lord my light is, and my health Lyrics: 1 The Lord my light is, and my health, What shall make me dismay'd? The Lord is of my life the strength, Who shall make me afraid: When wicked men mine enemies, And foes in battle come Against me to eat my flesh, They stumble and fell down. 3 If that an host against me come, My heart undaunted is: If war against me should arise, I am secure in this. 4 One thing I asked of the Lord, Which still I will request, That I of all my life the days May in the Lord's house rest. To view the beauty of the Lord, And in his temple seek. 5 For in his tent, i'th' evil day He will me hidden keep: He will me hide in secresy Of his pavilion; And will me highly lift upon The rock's munition. 6 Moreover at this time mine head On high shall lifted be Above mine enemies, who do About encompass me: Therefore in's tent I'll sacrifice Of joy and offering; Unto Jehovah sing will I, Year, I will praises sing. 7 When as I with my voice do cry, Me, O Jehovah hear: Have mercy also upon me, And unto me give ear. 8 O seek ye for my countenance, (When as thou saidst to me) Lord, I will seek thy countenance, Mine hears did answer thee. 9 O hide not thou thy countenancee Away from me therefore, Thy servant put thou not away In thy displeasure sore. O God of my salvation, Do not from me depart: Nor yet forsake me utterly, For thou my helper art. 10 My father and my mother both, Though they do me forsake, Yet will Jehovah gathering Unto himself me take. 11 Jehovah teach thou me the way, And be a gulde to me, In righteous paths, because of them That mine observers be. 12 Give me not up unto the will Of my fierce enemies, For witness false against me stand, And breathe out cruelties: 13 Which had o'ercome me, but that I Believed to see, Jehovah's goodness in the land Of them that living be. 14 Do thou upon Jehovah wait, Thy self there strengthening stay: And so my heart he strengthen shall: Wait on the Lord I say.

The Lord's my Light and saving Health

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 27 Lyrics: 1. The Lord's my Light, and saving Health; Why should I be dismay'd? The Lord supports my Life; of whom Then should I be afraid 2. When my oppressing spiteful Foes, Came on with horrid Frown, Voraciously to eat my Flesh, They stumbled, and fell down. 3. Tho' Hosts against me should encamp, Fearless I would abide; Should raging War against me rise, In this I would confide. 4. My Heart's Desire and constant Care, Is in God's House to dwell; That there I may his Beauty see, And know his holy Will. 5. In Times of Trouble, he will me, In his Pavilion, hide; I safe shall, in his secret Tent, As on a Rock, abide. 6. Now shall the Lord, o'er all my Foes, My Head, in Triumph, raise: And I'll, with Shouts, my Off'rings bring, I'll sing, and sound, his Praise. Second Part 7. O Lord, when with my Voice I cry, My fervent Pray'r receive; Have Mercy also upon me, And speedy Answer give. 8. Convinced this is thy just Command, "Seek ye my Face; my meek, And grateful Heart, with Joy replies, "Thy Face, Lord, I will seek. 9. Hide not thy Face, nor drive from Thee, Thy Servant, with thy Rod; Thou hast me help'd, now leave me not, O my Salvation's God. 10. Tho' both my Parents me forsake, The Lord will me protect. 11. Lord, teach, and lead, me in right Paths, For th' envious me inspect. 12. O, do not, to the raging Lusts Of Foes, deliver me; False Witnesses have risen up, They breathe out Cruelty. 13. My Soul had fainted, had not I Firmly believ'd, to see Thy Goodness crown me, in the Land Of them that living be. 14. My Soul, upon the Lord still wait, Take Courage from his Word; Thy Heart he'll strengthen with his Grace; Wait thou upon the Lord.

Light of my life, O Lord, Thou art

Author: John Brownlie Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 27:1-6 Lyrics: I Light of my life, O Lord, Thou art, No fear afflicts my trusting heart When, all secure in Thee As in a fortress I repose, And evil men, my direst foes, Are baulked that trouble me, II Hosts may encamp on every side, And pallid fear the trust deride That saves me from affright; But in the Lord my hope shall last, Till noise of war and strife are past, And flee the powers of night. III To God I make this chief request, That I in His abode may rest Through all my earthly days, To mark its comeliness and grace, And see the beauty of His face, Whose love inspires my praise. IV There shall I dwell unseen by all, Secure when days of trouble call, And evil doers mock; And He shall hide me in His tent, Till all the wrath of man is spent As tempests on a rock. V Therefore to Thee my praise I’ll give, And joyful offerings while I live My grateful soul shall bring; For Thou my foes hast beaten down, With victory Thou my head dost crown, And tun’st my heart to sing.

God, Your Glorious Presence

Author: Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769); Frederick William Foster (1760-1835); William Mercer (1811-1873); John Miller (1756-1810) Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 27 Lyrics: 1 God, your glorious presence draws us to adore you, and with awe appear before you. In your holy temple all keep mystic silence, prostrate lie with deepest reverence. You alone God we own, you our God and Saviour: praise your name for ever. 2 In God's glorious presence hear the harps resounding! See the hosts the throne surrounding! "Holy, holy, holy," hear the hymn ascending, angels, saints, their voices blending! Bow your ear to us here: hear, O Christ, the praises that your church now raises. 3 Fount of every blessing, purify my spirit, trusting only in your merit. Like the holy angels who behold your splendour, may I ceaseless worship render. Let your will ever still rule your church terrestrial, as the hosts celestial. Topics: Adoration; Gathering of the Community; Praise of God Used With Tune: ARNSBERG
