Remember, Jesus leads

Appears in 6 hymnals First Line: Ye followers of Christ, go forth Refrain First Line: Remember, remember Lyrics: 1 Ye followers of Christ, go forth, Your Master's call obey; Stay not till all the tribes of earth Shall own his sov'reign sway; Go, seek the souls that erring stray, For them a Saviour pleads, And while you keep the narrow way, Remember, Jesus leads. Chorus: Remember, remember, Remember, Jesus leads; Who trust in him are blest, He leads to perfect rest; Oh, remember Jesus leads. 2 His faithful ones who ever strive, His righteous cause to win, Shall see their Master's work revive, His vict'ry over sin. A fallen world in darkness lies, Each to the rescue speeds, Tho' foes on ev'ry side arise, Remember, Jesus leads. [Chorus] 3 Go up against sin's fortress walls, Go in the strength of grace, And if a standard bearer falls, Then you must take his place. Oh, tell his love that cannot fail, Make known his glorious deeds, And tho' you walk thro' death's dark vale, Remember, Jesus leads. [Chorus] Used With Tune: [Ye followers of Christ, go forth]

William J. Kirkpatrick

1838 - 1921 Person Name: Wm. J. Kirkpatrick Composer of "[Ye followers of Christ, go forth]" in Light and Life William J. Kirkpatrick (b. Duncannon, PA, 1838; d. Philadelphia, PA, 1921) received his musical training from his father and several other private teachers. A carpenter by trade, he engaged in the furniture business from 1862 to 1878. He left that profession to dedicate his life to music, serving as music director at Grace Methodist Church in Philadelphia. Kirkpatrick compiled some one hundred gospel song collections; his first, Devotional Melodies (1859), was published when he was only twenty-one years old. Many of these collections were first published by the John Hood Company and later by Kirkpatrick's own Praise Publishing Company, both in Philadelphia. Bert Polman
