Praise the One Who Breaks the Darkness

Author: Rusty Edwards Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 19 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Praise the One who breaks the darkness with a liberating light; praise the One who frees the prisoners, turning blindness into sight. Praise the One who preached the Gospel, healing every dread disease, calming storms, and feeding thousands with the very Bread of peace. 2 Praise the One who blessed the children with a strong, yet gentle word; praise the One who drove out demons with the piercing, two-edged sword. Praise the One who brings cool water to the desert's burning sand; from this well comes living water, quenching thirst in every land. 3 Let us praise the Word incarnate, Christ, who suffered in our place. Jesus died and rose victorious that we may know God by grace. Let us sing for joy and gladness, seeing what our God has done; let us praise the true Redeemer, praise the One who makes us one. Hark! the jubilee is sounding

Hymnal: The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion (New ed. thoroughly rev. and much enl.) #118 (1854) Meter: Irregular Lyrics: 1. Hark! the jubilee is sounding, O the joyful news is come; Free salvation is proclaimed In and through God's only Son: Now we have an invitation, To the meek and lowly Lamb, Glory, honor, and salvation; Christ the Lord is come to reign. 2. Come, dear friends, and don't neglect it, Come to Jesus in your prime; Great salvation, don't reject it, O receive it, now's your time; Now the Savior is beginning To revive his work again. Glory, honor, and salvation; Christ the Lord is come to reign. 3. Now let each one cease from sinning, Come and follow Christ the way; We shall all receive a blessing, If from him we do not stray; Golden moments we've neglected, Yet the Lord invites again! Glory, honor, and salvation; Christ the Lord is come to reign. 4. Come, let us run our race with patience, Looking unto Christ the Lord, Who doth live and reign for ever, With his Father and our God; He is worthy to be praised, He is our exalted king, Glory, honor, and salvation; Christ the Lord is come to reign. 5. Come, dear children, praise your Jesus, Praise him, praise him evermore. May his great love now constrain us, His great name for to adore. O then let us join together, Crowns of glory to obtain! Glory, honor, and salvation; Christ the Lord is come to reign. Languages: English Tune Title: JUBILEE

People

Authors, composers, editors, etc.

Anonymous

Person Name: Unknown Composer of "JUBILEE" in The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion (New ed. thoroughly rev. and much enl.) In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
