Gliding Away

Author: Jesse P. Tompkins Hymnal: Songs of Sovereign Grace #64 (1897) First Line: Beautiful white clouds drifting away Refrain First Line: Gliding away, gliding away Lyrics: 1 Beautiful white clouds drifting away, Under the blue, under the blue, Drifting away, at the closing of day, Hidden from view, hidden from view; Floating away from our raptured sight, Tinged by the glow of the fast fading light, Tinged by the glow of the fast fading light. Refrain: Gliding away, gliding away, Over the storm line into the bay; Sorrow and sighing there shall cease, Beautiful haven of perfect peace. 2 Beautiful white forms gliding away, Over the sea, over the sea, Gliding away to the heavenly shore, Hidden from me, hidden from me; Sailing away from our mortal sight, Out of the shadow and into the light, Out of the shadow and into the light. [Refrain] 3 Beautiful mansions brighter than day, Waiting for me, waiting for me, Beautiful faces that glided away, There I shall see, there I shall see; Ne’er to be tossed by the wind or tides, Resting in peace that forever abides, Resting in peace that forever abides. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: [Beautiful white clouds drifting away]

Philadelphia, PA, 1921) received his musical training from his father and several other private teachers. A carpenter by trade, he engaged in the furniture business from 1862 to 1878.
