Wilda Savage

1919 - 2008 Person Name: Wilda de Savage Author of "Envíame, Señor" in Himnario Bautista SAVAGE, MRS. WILDA ZOE Muskegon A pianist known for her delicate touch and her loving kindness, Wilda died in E. Lansing on Thursday, Jan. 16, at age 88. She and her late husband, Robert, were missionaries in Latin America, and leaders of several Baptist churches in Michigan, including Dalton Baptist Church, Mona Shores Baptist Church and Evanston Avenue Baptist Church. They were active participants at Maranatha Bible Conference, founded by Robert's father. In 1940, Wilda received the call to missionary service and wrote "Lord, Send Me", a hymn which continues to be an inspiration to many. Bob and Wilda served for 27 years in Colombia and Ecuador. They worked with international radio station HCJB "Heralding Christ Jesus' Blessings." They became well-known throughout Latin America on their daily radio program "Hymns of the Christian Life." Wilda played the piano and organ. She also sang duets with Bob in her lovely alto voice. In 1970 they returned to the USA to serve churches in Michigan. Bob was pastor, ably assisted by Wilda with her music and her joyful radiance. Everyone who knew her was touched by her genuine tender spirit. SURVIVORS Wilda is survived by her four children, Steve, Carol, Jim and Judi, as well as, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-children. MEMORIAL SERVICE Sunday, April 13, 2008, 3:00 PM at Dalton Baptist Church. Published by Muskegon Chronicle on Jan. 21, 2008.
