Put On the Glorious Armor

Author: Jennie Wilson Hymnal: The Finest of the Wheat No. 2 #151 (1894) First Line: Put on the glorious armor of light Refrain First Line: Arouse ye, arouse ye, the day is at hand Lyrics: 1 Put on the glorious armor of light, Day is approaching, far spent is the night, Hark to the message the day’s heralds bring, “March forth to battle for Jesus our King.” Refrain: Arouse ye, arouse ye, the day is at hand, Arouse ye, arouse ye, ‘tis Jesus’ command; Go, wearing the glorious armor of light, And scatter the legions of evil and night. 2 Put on the glorious armor of light, See helmet, breast-plate and shield gleaming bright, Using no weapon but truth’s mighty sword, Valiantly fight in the ranks of the Lord. [Refrain] 3 Put on the glorious armor of light, Foes of our King stand arrayed in their might, Following Christ, meet the army of sin, Fear not nor falter, the righteous shall win. [Refrain] 4 Wearing the God-given, armor of light, Press on to victory’s glory-crowned height, Then with the battles for Jesus all won, Hear from Him lips the glad plaudit, “well done.” [Refrain] Tune Title: [Put on the glorious armor of light]
