He's Coming Back

Author: F. J. Atkinson Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: Once a man of sorrows, pierced His hands and brow Refrain First Line: He’s coming back again, He’s coming back again Lyrics: 1 Once a man of sorrows, pierced His hands and brow, Now in glory seated, to Him angels bow. Once a helpless infant, once a tender youth, Then a mighty captain, girded with the truth. Refrain: He’s coming back again, He’s coming back again; He suffered here, but reigns up there; He’s coming back again; He’s coming back again, He’s coming back again; He suffered here, but reigns up there; He’s coming back again. 2 Once He suffered hunger, weariness and shame; Then He’ll come in triumph, all shall own His name. Once a man rejected, by the world cast out, Then on clouds of glory, hailed by angels’ shout. [Refrain] 3 Once His path was lonely, none to cheer His way, Hosts of saints attend Him on that coming day. Once exposed to sinners’ spitting, scorn and jeer, Kings and mighty captains then shall flee in fear. [Refrain] 4 Once He wore a thorn crown, then a kingly crown, Then His royal scepter every land shall own. Once they crucified Him, falsely charged with wrong, Then with saints in triumph—He their only song. [Refrain] Used With Tune: [Once a man of sorrows, pierced His hands and brow] Text Sources: Hymns of the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Bailie Brown and Peter P. Bilhorn (Chicago: Bilhorn Brothers, 1911)

At this time, he and his brother also formed the Eureka Wagon & Carriage Works in Chicago, IL. At 18 Peter became involved in gospel music, studying under George F. Root and George C. Stebbins.
