The Crown of Thorns

Author: John R. Clements Hymnal: Rodeheaver's Gospel Solos and Duets #90 (1925) First Line: Despised and rejected Lyrics: 1 Despised and rejected; Acquainted with grief; In sorrow He suffered To bring man relief; His pathway was sorrow, His pillow was thorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns. 2 O love all surpassing, Amazing to see; To bear uncomplaining Theses sorrows for me; His pathway was sorrow, His pillow was thorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns. 3 Like sheep we have wandered; Each turned to his way; The Lord on the Shepherd The burdens must lay; His pathway was sorrow, His pillow was thorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns. 4 O sad Man of Sorrow, So little esteemed; In anguish more trying Than mortal has dreamed; His pathway was sorrow, His pillow was thorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns, And these make the crown that His forehead adorns.
