1858 - 1927 Hymnal Number: 111 Author of "Waiting with Joyful Hearts" in Songs of Christian Service Ada Jane Blenkhorn Canada 1858-1927 Born in Cobourg, Ontario, the 10th of 11 children, she emigrated with her family to the U.S. In 1884 and settled in Cleveland, OH.. She was raised a Methodist, and began writing hymn lyrics at age 34. A prolific writer of hymn lyrics, she was about to give it up when a friend encouraged her to continue, telling her some soul might be saved by a hymn she would write. She worked for many years as secretary to her brother, Henry's, real estate company. After his death in 1923, she became president of the company. She never married. John Perry

1828 - 1875 Person Name: A. B. Everett Hymnal Number: 67 Composer of "[Sweetly, Lord, have we heard thee calling]" in Songs of Christian Service Asa Brooks Everett MusDoc USA 1828-1875. Born in VA, he planned to be a doctor, but decided to study music instead. He studied in Boston for four years and also in Leipzig, Germany for four years.. He composed many gospel tunes and edited “The Sceptre” a New York publication. His brothers, Benjamin and Leonard, were also composers. He and Leonard organized a musical instruction system in Richmond, VA, in the 1850s. By 1861, 50 teachers and singing schools were representing them and using their publications. He died in Nashville, TN. John Perry

1782 - 1850 Person Name: Charles Meineke Hymnal Number: 160 Composer of "[Glory be to the Father, and to the Son]" in Songs of Christian Service Meineke (1782-1850) is referred to by several given names including C., Charles, Christopher, Christoph, and Karl. Meineke apparently left Germany in 1810 and, after spending some time in England, moved to the United States, settling in Baltimore, Maryland, by 1822. He was organist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore in 1836, likely serving in this position for some eight years. Meineke published several works including "Music for the Church: Containing Sixty-two Psalm and Hymn Tunes in Four Parts: Together with Chants, Doxologies and Responses for Morning and Evening Prayer, and Holy Communion: Composed for the Use of the Choir of St. Paul's Church, Baltimore" (Baltimore, 1844).
