1872 - 1918 Hymnal Number: 116 Author of "Ye have Done it unto Me" in Happy Greetings Alonzo Burnham Bragdon was born on July 12, 1872 in Monroe, Michigan. He was known to the business world as Bragdon, Jr. He was editor of the Record-Commercial, a weekly paper published at Monroe, Michigan and was active in local journalism practically all his life. After completing the curriculum of the public schools of Monroe, he entered high school, in which he graduated as a member of the class of 1893. He began to sell newspapers when a lad of eleven years of age, and after leaving school he was engaged as a reporter until he had reached his legal age. He became city reporter on the Monroe Democrat and held that position for the ensuing five years. In April, 1900 he opened an office and handled various local papers. Died: January 18, 1913, Rutland, Vermont, at her home, The Maples. Buried: Evergreen Cemetery, Rutland, Vermont. Pseudonym: Caroline Thomas. Daughter of William Young Ripley, Julia lost her mother as a child. In 1830 her father took her to Vermont, where she was educated. She began writing poetry at an early age, but did not publish anything until two years after her 1847 marriage to Seneca M. Dorr, a prominent New York lawyer and banker. After her marriage, Julia contributed to magazines, mainly poetry, with an occasional short story. She counted among her friends writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, James Russell Lowell, Julia Ward Howe, Richard Watson Gilder, and Oliver Wendell Holmes.
