F. A. Graves

1856 - 1927 Person Name: F. A. G. Hymnal Number: 69 Author of "He'll Never Forget to Keep Me" in New Songs of the Old Faith Rv Frederick Arthur Graves USA 1856-1927. Born at Williamstown, MA, he was raised in a Christian family, but was orphaned at age 9 after the death of his father, a taylor, then three years later his mother (tuberculosis), he lived on a farm with a family names Hollis that worked him hard and treated him poorly. He was diagnosed with epilepsy when 14. At 21 he moved to Nobles County, MN, and it seemed that his seizures had stopped. Grateful for that, he served the American Sunday School Union as an organizer and evangelist. He was musical, and after age 35 wrote 43 songs. He, with wife Vina, raised three children, Arthur, Irene, and Carl. He studied Bible and music in Chicago, IL and Northfield, MA. Returning to Minneapolis and hearing evangelist John A Dowie, he experienced permanent healing, which provided a backdrop for his gospel songs. He was ordained an Assemblies of God minister in 1916. Later, he moved to Zion Hill,IL, where he lived the rest of his life. He died at Zion City, IL. Nearly 1000 people attended his funeral there. John Perry

Charles B. Widmeyer

1884 - 1974 Person Name: C. B. W. Hymnal Number: 41 Author of "Come and Dine" in New Songs of the Old Faith Widmeyer, Charles B. (Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, 1884--California, December 14, 1974). Studied vocal music from age 12 under J.M. Cowgill; at age 15 began teaching classes of his own. First song was written at age 15. The first one published, "Upon the Cross," was written at age 20. Bachelor of Music degree from Bethany-Peniel, Bethany, Oklahoma. Wrote more than 350 songs; edited or contributed to many songbooks. "Come and Dine" was written following the reading of John 21:12 and his meditation on the similarity between the tired, hungry disciples and people of his day both spiritually and physically hungry; translated into Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and Serbian. --E. W. Stillman Martin

1862 - 1935 Hymnal Number: 58 Composer of "[The blood that Jesus once shed for me]" in New Songs of the Old Faith Born: March 8, 1862, Rowley, Massachusetts. Died: December 16, 1935, Atlanta, Georgia. Buried: Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia. Husband of hymnist Civilla Martin, Stillman attended Harvard University and was ordained a Baptist minister, though he later switched to the Disciples of Christ denomination. In 1916, he became a professor of Bible studies at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. Three years later, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. J. Calvin Bushey

1847 - 1929 Hymnal Number: 236 Composer of "[Oh, do not let the word depart]" in New Songs of the Old Faith James Calvin Bushey USA 1847-1929. Born in Arendtsville, PA, Bushey was a singing teacher who lived in Ohio during the latter 19th century. He compiled several music collections, including “The Chorus Class” (1879), “Sparkling Gems” (1880), “Choral Climax” (1886), and “Magneic Melodies” (1892), all published by the Music firm of Will L. Hymnal Number: 77 Author of "Whosoever Meaneth Me" in New Songs of the Old Faith McConnell attended the Webb Preparatory School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, and William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri. He worked with his father (former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) in evangelism meetings for some time, playing the piano, singing, and directing the choir.
