1848 - 1907 Scripture: Matthew 7:24-27 Composer of "NO NOT ONE" in Singing the New Testament George Crawford Hugg USA 1848-1907. Born near Haddonfield, NJ, he became choirmaster at the Berlin, NJ, Presbyterian Church at age 12. At age 14 he published his first song, “Walk in the light”, which became very popular. He married Anne E Ketchum, and they had a daughter, Evangeline. He served as choirmaster of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and also the Broad Street and Arch Street Methodist Episcopal Churches there. He was also closely associated with the Harper Memorial Presbyterian Church there. He was a prolific composer with over 2000 works, publishing 18 books of revival and Sunday school music, and 90 songs for special occasions (Christmas, Easter, etc.). He died in Philadelphia, PA. George J. Elvey

1816 - 1893 Scripture: Matthew 7:24-27 Composer of "DIADEMATA" in Singing the New Testament George Job Elvey (b. Canterbury, England, 1816; d. Windlesham, Surrey, England, 1893) As a young boy, Elvey was a chorister in Canterbury Cathedral. Living and studying with his brother Stephen, he was educated at Oxford and at the Royal Academy of Music. At age nineteen Elvey became organist and master of the boys' choir at St. George Chapel, Windsor, where he remained until his retirement in 1882. He was frequently called upon to provide music for royal ceremonies such as Princess Louise's wedding in 1871 (after which he was knighted). Elvey also composed hymn tunes, anthems, oratorios, and service music. Bert Polman

Hal H. Hopson

Texas, 1933) is a prolific composer, arranger, clinician, teacher and promoter of congregational song, with more than 1300 published works, especially of hymn and psalm arrangements, choir anthems, and creative ideas for choral and organ music in worship. Born in Texas, with degrees from Baylor University (BA, 1954), and Southern Baptist Seminary (MSM, 1956), he served churches in Nashville, TN, and most recently at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. He has served on national boards of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians and the Choristers Guild, and taught numerous workshops at various national conferences. In 2009, a collection of sixty four of his hymn tunes were published in Hymns for Our Time: The Collected Tunes of Hal H. Hopson. Emily Brink
