Peacefully Sleep

Peacefully lay her [him] down to rest

Author: Theodore E. Perkins
Tune: SLEEP TILL THAT MORNING
Published in 27 hymnals

Representative Text

1 Peacefully lay (her him) down to rest;
Place the turf kindly o'er (her his) breast;
Sweet be the slumber 'neath the sod,
While the pure soul is resting with God.

Refrain:
Peacefully sleep,
Sleep till that morning,
Yes, peacefully sleep.

2 Close to (her his) lone and narrow house,
Gracefully wave, ye willow boughs;
Flow'rs of the wildwood odors shed
Over the holy, beautiful dead. [Refrain]

3 Quietly sleep, beloved one,
Rest from thy toil, thy labor's done;
Rest till the trump from th' op'ning skies
Bids thee from dust to glory arise! [Refrain]
