Rogers, Rev. George. (1805--July 6, 1846, Cincinnati, Ohio). A Universalist minister, author and editor. He published a Universalist Hymn Book in 1845, in which he included 26 hymns which he had written. Four of his hymns are included in Church Harmonies: New and Old, 1895:
1. As gentle dews distil
2. Let songs of praise arise
3. Religion! in thy blessed ray
4. There is a Sabbath rest, O Lord

SCHUMANN is one of many hymn tunes arranged by Lowell Mason (PHH 96). He first published the arrangement in Cantica Laudis (1850), a collection he edited with George J. Webb (PHH 559). Although this tune is widely attributed to Isaac Smith and was published in Smiths Collection of Psalm Tunes, London, ca. 1780, Smith does not claim to be the composer. The tune also appeared in other books of similar or earlier date. Southern Harmony, 1835 attributes the tune to J. Street.
