1 எம் வாழ்வின் மூலாதாரமே,
பிரபஞ்சத்தை நீரே போஷித்தே,
மாந்தரின் எல்லா இன்பமும்,
உம் அன்பு ஊற்றின் சாரலே.

2 நீர் சொல்ல தூய ஊற்றுமே
கானான் சியோனை கடந்திதோ,
ஆலய வாசல் ஓரமாய்
தீவிரமாக பாயுதே.

3 பாயும் சிற்றோடை துரிதமாய்,
ஆற்றின் போக்கில் கலந்ததோ,
பாலைவனத்தின் ஓடையாய்,
ஆசீரீந்து தன் பாதையில்.

4 கரையின் ஓரம் ஓரமெல்லாம்
மரங்கள் சோலையும் தோன்றியே,
நல் மணமெங்கும் வீசிட.
காய் கனி நம்மை போஷிக்க.

5 சவக்கடலில் பாயவே,
வழியெல்லாம் குணமாக்கி,
விஷம் நஞ்செல்லாம் முரிந்திட.
ஆசீர் தந்தே பாயுதே.

6 பாய்ந்திடும் விந்தையூற்றே நீர்
பூமியின் எல்லை எங்குமே,
மென்மையாய் எம்மை தேற்றுமே
நன்மை எல்லாம் தந்தீர் போற்றி.

Author: Philip Doddridge

Philip Doddridge (b. London, England, 1702; d. Lisbon, Portugal, 1751) belonged to the Non-conformist Church (not associated with the Church of England). Its members were frequently the focus of discrimination. Offered an education by a rich patron to prepare him for ordination in the Church of England, Doddridge chose instead to remain in the Non-conformist Church. For twenty years he pastored a poor parish in Northampton, where he opened an academy for training Non-conformist ministers and taught most of the subjects himself. Doddridge suffered from tuberculosis, and when Lady Huntington, one of his patrons, offered to finance a trip to Lisbon for his health, he is reputed to have said, "I can as well go to heaven from Lisbon as from Nort… Go to person page >
