Hinder Me Not

Author: John Ryland Hymnal: Hymns and Devotions for Daily Worship #222 (2024) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D First Line: When Abr'am's servant to procure Lyrics: 1. When Abr'am's servant to procure A wife for Isaac went, He met Rebekah, told his wish; Her parents gave consent. Yet for ten days they urged the man His journey to delay; "Hinder me not," the man replied, "Since God has sped my way." 2. So cries my soul, who lovely Christ Unto himself did wed, "Hinder me not, nor friends, nor foes, Since God my way has sped." Stay, says the world, a little while, And taste my pleasures sweet. "Hinder me not," my soul replies, "Because the way is great." 3. In all my Lord's appointed ways My journey I'll pursue; Hinder me not, my brethren dear, For I must go with you. Through floods or flames if Jesus leads, I'll go wheree'er he goes. "Hinder me not," shall be my cry, Tho' Earth and Hell oppose. 4. Through duty and through trials all, I'll go at his command. Hinder me not, for I am bound To my Immanuel's land. When Christ's own servant calls me home, Still this my cry breaks through: "Hinder me not; come, welcome death, I'll gladly go with you." If Christ Had Not Been Raised from Death

Author: Christopher M. Idle, b. 1938 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #486 (2006) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Lyrics: 1 If Christ had not been raised from death Our faith would be in vain, Our preaching but a waste of breath, Our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is ris'n indeed; He rules in earth and heav'n: His Gospel meets a world of need-- In Christ we are forgiv'n. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb Then death would be the end, And we should face our final doom With neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, So when a Christian dies We mourn, yet look to God in hope-- In Christ the saints arise! 3 If Christ had not been truly raised His church would live a lie; His name should never more be praised, His words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; Through Him we are restored; His word endures, His church revives In Christ, our risen Lord.
