Those Eternal Bowers

Author: Rev. J. M. Neale; St. John of Damascus Hymnal: The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892 #395a (1894) Meter: 6.5 D Lyrics: 1 Those eternal bowers Man hath never trod, Those unfading flowers Round the Throne of God: Who may hope to gain them After weary fight? Who at length attain them Clad in robes of white? 2 He who wakes from slumber At the Spirit's voice, Daring here to number Things unseen his choice: He who casts his burden Down at Jesus' cross; Christ's reproach his guerdon, All beside but loss 3 He, who gladly barters All on earthly ground; He who, like the martyrs, Says, "I will be crowned:" He, whose one oblation Is a life of love, Knit in God's salvation To the blest above. 4 Shame upon you, legions Of the Heavenly King, Citizens of regions Past imagining! What, with pipe and tabor Dream away the light, When He bids you labor, When He tells you, "Fight!" 5 Jesu, Lord of glory, As we breast the tide, Whisper Thou the story On the other side; Where the saints are casting Crowns before Thy feet, Safe for everlasting, In Thyself complete. Amen. Topics: General; Processional; Consecration; Progress Languages: English Tune Title: [Those eternal bowers]

Saviour, Blessed Saviour

Author: Rev. G. Thring Hymnal: Calvary Songs #16 (1875) Lyrics: 1 Saviour, blessed Saviour, Listen whilst we sing, Hearts and voices raising Praises to our King. All we have to offer; All we hope to be, Body, soul, and spirit. All we yield to thee. 2 Nearer, ever nearer, Christ, we draw to thee, Deep in adoration Bending low the knee: Thou for our redemption Cam'st on earth to die; Thou, that we might follow, Hast gone up on high. 3 Great and ever greater Are thy mercies here, True, and everlasting Are the glories there, Where no pain, or sorrow, Toil, or care is known, Where the angel-legions Circle round thy throne. 4 Brighter still and brighter Glows the western sun, Shedding all its gladness O'er our work that's done; Time will soon be over, Toil and sorrow past, May we, blessed Saviour, Find a rest at last. 5 Onward, ever onward, Journeying o'er the road Worn by saints before us, Journeying on to God: Leaving all behind us, May we hasten on, Backward never looking Till the prize is won. 6 Bliss, all bliss excelling, When the ransomed soul Earthly toils forgetting Finds its promised goal; Where in joys unheard of Saints with angels sing, Never weary raising Praises to their King. Languages: English Tune Title: [Saviour, blessed Saviour]
