Baptized into Your Name Most Holy

Author: Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878; Johann J. Rambach, 1693-1735 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 45 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Baptized into your name most holy, O Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I claim a place, though weak and lowly, Among Your seed, your chosen host. Buried with Christ and dead to sin, I have your Spirit now within. 2 My loving Father, here you take me Henceforth to be your child and heir; My faithful Savior, here you make me The fruit of all your sorrows share; O Holy Ghost, you comfort me Though threat'ning clouds around I see. 3 O faithful God, you never fail me: Your cov'nant surely will abide. Let not eternal death assail me Should I transgress it on my side! Have mercy when I come defiled; Forgive, lift up, restore your child. 4 All that I am and love most dearly, Receive it all, O Lord, from me. Oh, let me make my vows sincerely, And help me your own child to be! Let nothing that I am or own Serve any will but yours alone. I praise Thee, O my God and Father

Author: J. Mentzer Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1 I praise Thee, O my God and Father, For all I am and all I have, The blessings that we daily gather, E'en from our cradle to our grave; For Thy rich grace hath scattered here Whate'er we need to help and cheer. 2 I praise Thee, Savior, whose compassion Hath brought Thee down to succor me; Thy pitying heart sought my salvation, Though keenest woes were heaped on Thee, Wrought me from bondage full release, Made me Thine own and gave me peace. 3 Thee, too, I praise, O Holy Spirit, By whose deep teachings I am made A heavenly kingdom to inherit, Who art my comforter, my aid; Whate'er of good by me is done Is of Thy grace and light alone. 4 And as my life is onward gliding, With each fresh scene anew I mark How Thou art holding me and guiding, Where all seems troubled, strange, and dark; When cares oppress and hopes depart, Thy light hath never failed my heart. 5 Shall I not then be filled with gladness, Shall I not praise Thee evermore? And triumph o'er all fears and sadness, E'en when my cup of woe runs o'er? Though heaven and earth may pass away, I know Thy word stands fast for aye. Soul, What Return Has God, Thy Savior

Author: Karl Friedrich Lochner Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 10 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Soul, what return has God, thy Savior, For all He gives thee day by day? Oh, hast thou in thy gift a favor That can delight and please Him?—Say! The best of offerings He requires: Thy heart it is that He desires. 2. Give unto God thy heart’s affection; Who else can claim thee as His own? Should Satan hold thee in subjection? With him but pangs of hell are known. To Thee alone, O Lord divine, My heart and all I now resign. 3. Accept the gift which Thou requirest, My heart and soul, O gracious God, The first-fruits Thou so much desirest, For which Thy Son paid with His blood. To Thee I willingly assign My heart, dear Lord, for it is Thine. 4. Whom should I give my heart’s affection But Thee, who gavest Thine to faith? Thy fervent love is my protection; Lord, Thou hast loved me unto death. My heart with Thine shall ever be One heart throughout eternity. Used With Tune: O DASS ICH TAUSEND Text Sources: composite translation from German to English

Now I have found the firm foundation

Author: J. A. Rothe Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Now I have found the firm foundation, where evermore my anchor grounds! It lay there ere the world's creation, where else, but in my Savior's wounds? Foundation, which unmoved shall stay, when earth and heaven pass away. 2 It is that mercy never ending, Which all conception far transcends, Of Him, who, with love's arms extending, To wretched sinners condescends; Whose heart with pity still doth break, Whether we seek Him, or forsake. 3 Our ruin God has not intended, He wills salvation to bestow; For this the Son to earth descended, And then to heaven again did go; For this so loudly evermore He knocketh at our heart’s closed door. 4 O depth of love, in which, past finding, My sins through Christ's blood disappear; This is for wounds the safest binding, There is no condemnation here; For Jesus’ blood through earth and skies Forever Mercy! Mercy! cries. 5 I never will forget this crying, In faith I’ll trust it all my days, And, when o’er all my sins I’m sighing, I towards my Father’s heart will gaze; For there is always to be found Free mercy without end and bound. 6 Though I be robbed of every pleasure That soul and body can make glad, Bereft of every earthly treasure, Forlorn, forsaken, lone and sad: However far His help may be, His mercy yet is left to me. 7 If earthly cares and want oppress me, And cause me sorrow and regret That things so vain can still distress me, And give me so much trouble yet: Though I am bowed down to the dust, Still in His mercy I will trust. 8 If in the best of all my actions, In works that are admired the most, I must perceive great imperfections, I surely have no right to boast; Yet this sweet comfort doth abide: In mercy only I confide. 9 Be it with me as He is willing, Whose mercy is a boundless sea; May He himself my heart be stilling, That this may ne'er forgotten be; Then it will rest, in joy and woe, On mercy, while it beats below. 10 On this foundation I unshrinking Will stand, while I on earth remain; This shall engage my acting, thinking, While I the breath of life retain; Then I will sing eternally, Unfathomed Mercy, still of Thee. Topics: The Order Of Salvation Used With Tune: [Now I have found the firm foundation]
