1835 - 1924 Author of "Be Glad To Serve" in The Cyber Hymnal Larned, Augusta. (Rutland, New York, April 16, 1835--1924). Author of six volumes of stories for children and of one on Greek mythology and another on Norse mythology. Contributor to various periodicals and for 20 years correspondent and editorial writer with The Christian Register, Boston. She published in 1895 a book of poems entitled In the Woods and Fields from which was taken her hymn on peace of mind, "In quiet hours the tranquil soul," for inclusion in the Isles of Shoals Hymn-Book, 1908; The New Hymn and Tune Book, 1914; and Hymns of the Spirit, 1937. --Henry Wilder Foote, DNAH Archives ===================================== Larned, Augusta, author, born in Rutland, Jefferson County, New York, 16 April, 1835. She was educated at Watertown and Potsdam seminaries and the Spingler institute, New York, and settled in that city as a newspaper correspondent and a contributor of sketches, stories, and poems to periodicals. In 1870 she edited "The Revolution," a woman's-rights newspaper.
