Johan Olof Wallin
1779 - 1839 Person Name: J. O. Wallin Alterer of "Jesu! du dig sjelf uppväckte" in Svenska Psalm-Boken af År 1819 Johan Olaf Wallin was born at Stora Tuna, in 1779, and early displayed his poetical powers. In 1805, and again in 1809, he gained the chief prize for poetry at Upsala. In the latter year he became pastor at Solna; here his ability as a preacher was so striking that he was transferred to Stockholm, in 1815, as "pastor primarius," a title for which we have no exact equivalent. In 1818 he was made Dean of Westeras, and set about the task of editing a revised hymn-book for the whole of Sweden. This task he completed in 1819, and published it as, Den Swenska Psalmboken, af Konungen gillad och stadfästad (The Swedish hymn-book, approved and confirmed by the King). To it he contributed some 150 hymns of his own, besides translations and recastings; and the book remains now in the form in which he brought it out. It is highly prized by the Swedes, and is in use everywhere.

1645 - 1714 Person Name: H. Spegel, d. 1714 Author of "Jesu! du dig sjelf uppväckte" in Svenska Psalm-Boken af År 1819 Haquin Spegel (Haqvin) (14 June 1645 – 17 April 1714), born Håkan Spegel in Ronneby in Blekinge (today in Sweden), was a religious author and hymn writer who held several bishop's seats.

1767 - 1844 Author of "Lord, Disperse the Mists of Error" in The Hymnal and Order of Service Åström, Johan. (Gaevle, Sweden, November 30, 1767--February 29, 1844). Lutheran. Ordained in 1793, he was briefly pastor of the German church in Norrkoeping, then appointed rector (1805) at Tuna and Stavby and (1821) at Sigtune and Altuna; assisted Archbishop J.O. Wallin in preparing the Psalmbok (1816-1818). The 1819 edition contained 11 of his hymns and several translations.

Frans Michael Franzén
1772 - 1847 Person Name: Frans Mikael Franzén Author of "Look to Jesus Christ Thy Saviour" in The Hymnal and Order of Service Franzén, Franz Michael, was born at Uleabôrg, Finland, in 1772, and educated at the University of Abo, where he became Librarian and Professor of Literary History. He was subsequently Minister at Kumla, Orebro, Sweden, and then of Santa Clara, in Stockholm. He was consecrated Bishop of Hernosand, in 1841, and died there in 1847. (See Supplement to Longfellow's Poets and Poetry of Europe.) Of his pieces one is in English common use. It begins "Jesum haf i ständigt minne," translated by Mrs. Charles in her Christian Life in Song, 1858, p. 250, as "Jesus in Thy memory keep" (Looking unto Jesus). Usually it begins with stanza ii., "Look to Jesus, till, reviving."
