Florence Harris

1891 - 1933 Author of "Like pilgrims sailing through the night" in Hymns of the Spirit for Use in the Free Churches of America Harris, Florence (Mrs. Robert H. Hooke). (1891-1933). Wrote in 1907, for the tenth anniversary of Unity Church (Unitarian), Montclair, New Jersey, of which she was a member, a hymn entitled "The Founders" beginning "Like a pilgrim sailing through the night" which was included in The New Hymn and Tune Book, 1914, and in Hymns of the Spirit, 1937. --Henry Wilder Foote, DNAH Archives

Charles Burney

1726 - 1814 Composer of "TRURO" in Services for Congregational Worship. The New Hymn and Tune Book A music historian and composer, Burney attended Shrewsbury School and the Free School, Chester. He was apprenticed to Thomas Arne from 1744 to 1746. In 1749, he became organist at St. Dionis’ Backchurch, London. In 1751 moved to King’s Lynn, Norfolk, where he taught and played the organ.
