Composer of "GREGORY" in The Cyber Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

1776 - 1836 Author of "Blest Jesus, When Thy Cross I View" in The Cyber Hymnal Speece, Conrad, D.D., b. at New London, Va., Nov. 7, 1776; ordained by the Presbytery of Baltimore, April 22, 1804; and died Feb. 17, 1836. Full particulars concerning him are given in W. H. Foote's Sketches of Virginia, 2nd series, 1855. His hymn, "Blest Jesus, when Thy cross I view" (Good Friday), is dated Oct. 6, 1800, and was first printed in The Connecticut Evangelical Magazine, vol. ii. It was included in the Presbyterian Psalms and Hymns, 1831, 1843, and 1901, and is still found in some modern collections. [Rev. L. F.
