O Christ, the healer, we have come

Author: Frederick Pratt Green (1903-2000) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #717 (2005) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1-14 Lyrics: 1 O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends? 2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamour to be freed; yet in our hearts we would confess that wholeness is our deepest need. 3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves. 4 In conflicts that destroy our health we diagnose the world's disease; our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these? 5 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach the whole of humankind. Topics: The Church Celebrates; The Church Celebrates Wholeness and Healing; Suffering; Unity of Humanity Languages: English Tune Title: ANGELUS

Go Wash in the Beautiful Stream

Author: Charles A. Tindley Hymnal: Hymns and Devotions for Daily Worship #224 (2024) Scripture: 2 Kings 5 First Line: Now Naaman the leper, that hon'rable man Lyrics: 1. Now Naaman the leper, that hon'rable man, A captain of Syria's guard, Was badly afflicted and covered by rash, But favored in sight of the Lord. Oh my! what a sight; disease made him white; No doctor could help him he'd seen; He never did pray And knew not the way To wash in the beautiful stream. Go wash in the beautiful stream, Go wash in the beautiful stream; O Naaman, O Naaman, go down and wash, Go wash in the beautiful stream. 2. He heard of a man in the Israelite land A woman had told him about; I'll go if I can, thus he said to his friends, For he may relieve me, no doubt. He went and he called the prophet of God; Elisha refused to be seen, But offered his care And sent him down there To wash in the beautiful stream. [Refrain] 3. So Naaman raged on, and the servant had gone Whom 'lisha had sent to the door; He did not believe what he had just received, Instructions for his perfect cure; He tho't waters flowing in his own land Were better because they were clean; 'Twas just about night, He got in the light And plunged in the beautiful stream. [Refrain] 4. Now sinner, O sinner, are you not the same As Naaman, that strong Syrian? Your sickness, it injures both body and soul And makes you feel loathsome and mean; You feel you are lost, but turn to the cross, And Jesus will then make you clean. All those who are sick, Be humble and quick, And wash in the beautiful stream. [Refrain] Topics: Ordinary Time Week 9 Languages: English Tune Title: BEAUTIFUL STREAM

Before the Dawn Had Broken

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Hymnal: Faith That Lets Us Sing #22 (2017) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1-14 Lyrics: 1 Before the dawn had broken, before God's lamp was spent, a boy heard someone calling and wondered what it meant. The old priest reassured him, so Samuel, without fear, said, ""God, your servant listens, and waits, your word to hear."" 2 A young lad went to battle a giant ten feet tall, while others watched and trembled, and thought to see him fall. Said David, ""God protects me; I come in God's own name."" God helped him save the people, by faith make good his claim. 3 The soldier was a leper who thought his doom was sure, but then a young girl told him, "God's prophet has a cure." She sent him to Elisha who showed him what to do. and he, made whole and healthy, saw he could trust God too. 4 The multitude was hungry. “We have no food,” they said. A little boy came forward to share his fish and bread. “It is enough,” said Jesus, “this gift of love will last.” He blessed the loaves and fishes, and no one had to fast. 5 A child becomes a prophet, a shepherd boy a king, a maid, a means of healing. a boy, of offering. May we have faith like children, like them come to believe that when we trust love’s power great blessings we receive. Topics: Children in the Bible Languages: English Tune Title: CHILD-LIKE FAITH
