1839 - 1929 Person Name: Elisha A. Hoffman Meter: 7.7.6.7.7.6 with refrain Author of "On to Victory" Elisha Hoffman (1839-1929) after graduating from Union Seminary in Pennsylvania was ordained in 1868. As a minister he was appointed to the circuit in Napoleon, Ohio in 1872. He worked with the Evangelical Association's publishing arm in Cleveland for eleven years. He served in many chapels and churches in Cleveland and in Grafton in the 1880s, among them Bethel Home for Sailors and Seamen, Chestnut Ridge Union Chapel, Grace Congregational Church and Rockport Congregational Church. In his lifetime he wrote more than 2,000 gospel songs including"Leaning on the everlasting arms" (1894). The fifty song books he edited include Pentecostal Hymns No. 1 and The Evergreen, 1873.

Samuel W. Beazley
1873 - 1944 Person Name: Samuel W. Beazley, 1873-1944 Meter: 7.7.6.7.7.6 with refrain Composer of "THE LOVE OF GOD (Beazley)" in The Christian Hymnary. Bks. 1-4 Samuel W. Beazley was born in Sparta, Virginia in 1873. He was a music scholar and taught music at Shenandoah College for five years. He composed over 4,000 gospel songs during his lifetime. Samuel W. Beazley maintained a successful publishing business in Chicago, Illinois. He died in Chicago on September 16, 1944. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1992.

Bks. 1-4 Laurene Highfield was born in Quincy, Illinois. She wrote about three hundred hymns and sacred songs, the libretto of one orotorio and several cantatas among other works.
