Jean E. Garriott

Garriott) is a music teacher and church leader in Chevy Chase, Maryland. --New Hymns, Songs and Prayers for Church and Home, 1974. Used by permission. =================== Jean E. Garriott (Mrs. Christopher T. Garriott) is the wife of the minister of the St. Paul Community Church of Homewood, Illinois. She is a graduate of the Conservatory of Music, Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. During the past fifteen years, she has conducted music clinics in Massachusetts, Colorado, and Ohio for the International Convention of Community Churches. She is well-known in the Chicago area for her hymn programs, given as piano talks. Four of her poems have appeared in The Christian, international magazine of the Disciples of Christ. Dosia Carlson

b. 1930 Hymnal Number: 8 Author of "God of Eagles, God of Sparrows" in New Hymns for America Dosia Carlson (b.1930) is an inspiration to differently abled people. A bout with polio shattered her dream of being a missionary in China. After studying at Oberlin College she went on to seminary, was ordained, earned a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh and served on the faculty of The Defiance College. She is founder of DUET, formerly Center DOAR (Developing Older Adult Resources) She lived at the Beatitudes Campus Lifestyle Community in Phoenix, AZ. Among her many awards are Arizona Woman of the Year and the Antoinette Brown Award for outstanding women clergy. She has published two collections of hymns. Her hymn "Egypt Under Pharaoh" is included in The New Century Hymnal (A.Clyde, Cleveland, OH: Pilgrim Press, 1995). Mary Louise VanDyke

William Watkins Reid

1923 - 2007 Person Name: William Watkins Reid, Jr. Hymnal Number: 2 Author of "America, How Great the Dream" in New Hymns for America William W. Reid, Jr. (1923-2007), after graduating from Oberlin College and Seminary and Yale Divinity School served for more than fifty years as pastor in the Wyoming Conference in rural and inner-city Methodist churches. He served on the Executive Committee of The Hymn Society of America. He was involved in social issues, serving as a councilman and county commissioner. His hymns are widely published in hymnals of many denominations. Mary Louise VanDyke =============================== William W. Reid, Jr. is pastor of the Methodist Church Circuit at Carverton, Pennsylvania. He previously served in a similar capacity at Camptown in the same State. He is a graduate of the Yale Divinity School and Oberlin College. He served during World War II in the Medical Corps and was held prisoner by the Germans for eight months. He is the author of several hymns including those in "Fourteen New Rural Hymns" and "Twelve New World Order Hymns" published by the Hymn Society. ----Fifteen New Christian Education Hymns, 1959.
