1890 - 1983 Hymnal Number: 10 Author of ""Go!" Says the Master: and Earth's Paths" in Fifteen New Bible Hymns Reid, William Watkins, Sr. (Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland, October 15, 1890--February 18, 1983, Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania). Methodist. Parents were William Reid, a native of Moneymore, near Belfast, and Sarah Watkins of Londonderry. Came to the United States in 1900. Attended New York University (bachelor's degree, 1915; master's degree in journalism, 1917). Served The Hymn Society as President, Executive Director, and Editor of The Hymn from 1966 to 1976. Authored the Hymn Society's 40th anniversary history, Sing with Spirit and Understanding. Also edited The Pastor's Journal for the Methodist church and worked as its director of the News Service of the Board of Missions. Also: Caulfield, Benjamin. --From DNAH Archives ============================== William Watkins Reid, of Whitestone, Long Island, was president of the Hymn Society of America from 1942 to 1945, and is now a member of its Executive Committee. Used the title of "My God is There, Controlling," the Society has published 65 of his hymns, and several others were published in the Society's "searches", for new hymns. Frank von Christierson

1900 - 1996 Hymnal Number: 13 Author of ""Give Men My Word!"" in Fifteen New Bible Hymns Frank von Christierson (1900-1996) was born near Helsinki, Finland. He attended San Jose (California) High School, Stanford University (BA, Psychology, 1923), and San Francisco Theological Seminary (BD 1929). In 1983 he was awarded the citation of distinguished alumnus, and became a Fellow of The Hymn Society. He has served as youth director at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo, and pastor at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Citrus Heights, California. He has published a hymnal collection entitled Make a Joyful Noise (1987) and is represented in many hymnals. Three of his hymn texts have been included in the new Hope hymnal Worship & Rejoice (2001). http://www.hopepublishing.com/html ========================= After serving for thirty-seven years as a minister of the United Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, North Hollywood and Sacramento, California, Rev. Frank con Christierson has retired to serve as "Interim minister" in the Central Area of the Synod of California. He has been moderator of San Francisco Presbytery and of Los Angeles Presbytery, and has just completed three years as chairman of radio and television for the Sacramento Area Council of Churches. Born in Finland, he was brought to America as a boy of four. He is a graduate of Stanford University and of San Francisco Theological Seminary. Held many pastorates as well as posts in the Church of the Brethren; missionary in India, 1931-1939; Director of Evangelism, 1951-1955; Moderator, 1959-1960. --The Hymn Society, DNAH Archives ========================= Edward Krusen Ziegler is pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Oakton, Virginia. This is the sixth pastorate which he has held in his denomination. In addition to his service in the pastorate, he has held important and varied posts in the Church of the Brethren: Missionary in India 1931-1939; Director of Evangelism 1951-1955; Moderator 1959-1960. He is the author of several books and the 250th Anniversary Hymn of his denomination. He is also the author of one of the Hymn Society's Stewardship Hymns. He is editor of Brethren Life and Thought. As the daughter and granddaughter of Methodist ministers she has long had an interest in hymns and church music and has served as organist in a number of churches. A native of Tennessee, all of his ministerial experience was in New Jersey. 1910 - 1995 Hymnal Number: 7 Author of "Send Forth the Word" in Fifteen New Bible Hymns Aamodt, Margaret D. (Mrs. H. Oscar Aamodt). (Cuyuna Iron Range, northern Minnesota, December 14, 1910-- ). Lutheran. Daughter of Roy and Effie Cunningham. Lake Mills, Iowa High School, 1929. Editor of Graphic, a printing journal, in Lake Mills and news correspondent and staff writer for several local papers. Author of a book of poems, Through Country Lanes (1963), of many poems published in newspapers and magazines, and a number of hymns, one of which, "Send forth the word," was published by The Hymn Society in 1966 in Fifteen New Bible Hymns. Poetry has been a lifelong interest, and her work in this field brought her several awards from the Iowa Press Women's Association and membership in several state, national, and international poetry groups.
