Nehemiah Adams
1806 - 1878 Editor of "" in Church Pastorals, hymns and tunes for public and social worship Adams, Nehemiah. Born at Salem, Mass., Feb. 19, 1806, and graduated at Harvard, 1826, and Andover, 1829. He was Congregational pastor at Cambridge, 1829-1834, and of Essex St. Church, Boston, 1834-1870. He died 1878. In 1854 he published South-side View of Slavery, and in 1864 he edited Church Pastorals. His hymns are :—
1. Come, take His offers now. [Invitation.] An adaptation from C. Wesley, given in his Church Pastorals, 1864, and repeated in the Hymns and Songs of Praise, N. Y., 1874.
2. Saints in glory, we together. [Praise.] This is also in Church Pastorals 1864, and the Hymns & Songs of Praise, 1874, where it is said to be by "S. E. Mahmied." This name, which has led compilers astray for some time, is purely fictitious.
