The Lord will provide

Author: Newton Appears in 432 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 22:14 First Line: Tho' trouble assail and dangers affright Lyrics: 1 Tho' troubles assail and dangers affright, Tho' friends should all fail, and foes all unite; Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide, The promise assures us, the Lord will provide. 2 The birds without barn and store-house are fed: From them let us learn to trust for our bread: His saints what is fitting shall ne'er be deny'd, So long as 'tis written, "the Lord will provide." 3 We all may, like ships, by tempests be tost, On perilous deeps, but cab not be lost; Tho' satan enrages the wind and the tide, Yet scripture engages, the Lord will provide. 4 His call we obey, like Abraham of old. We know not the way, but faith makes us bold; For tho' we are strangers, we have a sure guide, And trust in all dangers, the Lord will provide. 5 When satan appears to stop up our path, And fills us with fears, we triumph by faith: He cannot take from us (tho' oft he has try'd) The heart chearing promise, the Lord will provide. 6 He tells us we're weak our hope is in vain, The good that we seek, we ne're shall obtain But when such suggestions our graces have try'd This answers all questions, the Lord will provide. 7 No strength of our own, nor goodness we claim, Our trust is all thrown on Jesus' name; In this our strong tower for safety we hide The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide. 8 When life sinks apace, and death is in view, The word of his grace shall comfort us through; No fearing nor doubting with Christ on our side, We hope to die shouting, the Lord will provide.

Hymn 129

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 38 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 22:6 First Line: Saints, at your heav'nly Father's word Lyrics: Saints, at your heav'nly Father's word Give up your comforts to the Lord; He shall restore what you resign, Or grant you blessings more divine. So Abram with obedient hand Led forth his son at God's command; The wood, the fire, the kiufe, he took, His arm prepared the dreadful stroke. "Abram, forbear!" the angel cried, Thy faith is known, thy love is tried Thy son shall live, and in thy seed Shall the whole earth be blest indeed." Just in the last distressing hour Tie Lord displays deliv'ring power; The mount of dauger is the place Where we shall see surprising grace.

Abraham, when severely tried

Author: C. Wesley Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 34 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 22:10 Lyrics: 1 Abraham, when severely tried, His faith by his obedience showed; He with the harsh command complies, And gave his Isaac back to God. 2 His son the father offered up-- Son of his age, his only son; Object of all his joy and hope. And less beloved than God alone. 3 Oh, for a faith like his, that we The bright example may pursue; May gladly give up all to thee, To whom our more than all is due. 4 Is there a thing than life more dear? A thing from which we cannot part? We can, we now rejoice to tear The idol from our bleeding heart. 5 Jesus, accept our sacrifice; All things for thee we count but loss: Lo! at thy word our idol dies-- Dies on the altar of thy cross. 6 For what to thee, O Lord, we give, A hundred-fold we here obtain; And soon with thee shall all receive, And loss shall be eternal gain. New Every Morning Is the Love

Author: John Keble Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 362 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 22:8 Lyrics: 1 New ev'ry morning is the love our waking and uprising prove; through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life, and pow'r, and thought. 2 New mercies each returning day hover around us while we pray; new perils past, new sins forgiv'n, new thoughts of God, new hopes of heav'n. 3 If on our daily course our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still of countless price God will provide for sacrifice. 4 The trivial round, the common task will furnish all we need or ask: room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God. 5 Seek we no more; content with these, let present rapture, comfort, ease as God shall bid them, come and go-- the secret, this, of rest below. 6 Only, O Lord, in thy dear love fit us for perfect rest above, and help us this and every day to live more nearly as we pray. Matthew 6:25-34

Author: William Cowper Appears in 408 hymnals Scripture: Genesis 22:14 First Line: Sometimes a light surprises Lyrics: 1 Sometimes a light surprises The Christian while he sings; It is the Lord who rises With healing in his wings: When comforts are declining, He grants the soul again A season of clear shining, To cheer it after rain. 2 In holy contemplation, We sweetly then pursue The theme of God's salvation, And find it ever new: Set free from present sorrow, We cheerfully can say, Let the unknown to-morrow Bring with it what it may. 3 It can bring with it nothing, But he will bring us through; Who gives the lilies clothing, Will clothe his people too: Beneath the spreading heavens, No creature but is fed; And he who feeds the ravens, Will give his children bread. 4 Though vine nor fig-tree neither, Their wonted fruit should bear, Though all the fields should wither, Nor flocks, nor herds be there; Yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice, For while in him confiding, I cannot but rejoice. Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side

Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. 2 Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know his voice, who ruled them while he dwelt below. 3 Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart and all is darkened in the vale of tears, then you shall better know his love, his heart, who comes to soothe your sorrow, calm your fears. Be still, my soul: for Jesus can repay from his own fullness all he takes away. 4 Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be for ever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgotten, love's pure joy restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessèd we shall meet at last. Topics: Funerals, Commemoration, Remembrance and All Souls Used With Tune: FINLANDIA
