Person Name: Mrs. Mary Hubbert Munford Composer of "[When He took my sins away!]" in The Best of All Mary Hubbert Mumford Ellis married to Joseph Cannon Ellis, both ordained minsters, take turns in preaching to their congregation at the Munford Primitive Methodist Church (in Philadelphia) They give their services without pay. Dr. Ellis, who is a practicing surgeon, conducts regular meetings in the church. His wife bears the title of assistant pastor. "I do not believe in a pastor accepting money for his church work" says Mrs. Ellis. "He–or she–should have other employment during the week and earn enough in that way to obviate such a necessity. We don't make any rule about who is to preach on a certain day. It depends on which of us the congregation seems to need most at a certain time."
