All Glory to God in the Sky

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #56 Lyrics: 1. All glory to God in the sky, And peace upon earth be restored! O Jesus, exalted on high, Appear our omnipotent Lord: Who meanly in Bethlehem born, Didst stoop to redeem a lost race, Once more to Thy creature return, And reign in Thy kingdom of grace. 2. When Thou in our flesh didst appear, All nature acknowledged Thy birth; Arose the acceptable year, And Heaven was opened on earth. Receiving its Lord from above, The world was united to bless The Giver of concord and love, The Prince and the Author of peace. 3. O wouldst Thou again be made known, Again in Thy Spirit descend, And set up in each of Thine own A kingdom that never shall end! Thou only art able to bless, And make the glad nations obey, And bid the dire enmity cease, And bow the whole world to Thy sway. 4. Come then to Thy servants again, Who long Thy appearing to know, Thy quiet and peaceable reign, In mercy establish below: All sorrow before Thee shall fly, And anger and hatred be o’er, And envy and malice shall die, And discord afflict us no more. 5. No horrid alarm of war Shall break our eternal repose; No sound of the trumpet is there, Where Jesus’ Spirit o’erflows: Appeased by the charms of Thy grace We all shall in amity join, And kindly each other embrace, And love with a passion like Thine. How tedious and tasteless the hours

Hymnal: The Southern Harmony, and Musical Companion (New ed. thoroughly rev. and much enl.) #71 (1854) Meter: 8.8.8. Lyrics: 1. How tedious and tasteless the hours When Jesus no longer I see; Sweet prospects, sweet birds, and sweet flowers, Have all lost their sweetness to me; The midsummer sun shines but dim, The fields strive in vain to look gay; But when I am happy in him, December's as pleasant as May. 2. His name yields the richest perfume, And sweeter than music his voice; His presence disperses my gloom, And makes all within me rejoice; I should, were he always thus nigh, Have nothing to wish or to fear; No mortal so happy as I, My summer would last all the year. 3. Content with beholding his face, My all to his pleasure resigned, No changes of season or place Would make any change in my mind: While blest with a sense of his love, A palace a toy would appear; And prisons would palaces prove, If Jesus would dwell with me there. 4. Dear Lord, if indeed I am thine, If thou art my sun and my song, Say, why do I languish and pine? And why are my winters so long? O drive these dark clouds from my sky, Thy soul cheering presence restore; Or take me to thee up on high, Where winter and clouds are no more. Languages: English Tune Title: GREEN FIELDS
