1841 - 1906 Person Name: Elias Henry Johnson Meter: 6.4.6.4.6.6.6.4 Composer of "LAPHAM" Johnson, Elias Henry, D.D., has been since 1882 Professor of Systematic Theology in Croser Baptist Theo. Seminary, Chester, Pa. He was born at Troy, N.Y., Oct. 15, 1841, and graduated at Rochester. After acting for two years as assistant paymaster in the U.S. Navy he was ordained to the Baptist Ministry, and served in several pastorates. He edited Songs of Praise for Sunday Schools, 1882; was assistant editor of the Baptist Hymnal, 1883; and also editor of Our Sunday School Songs, 1885, and Sursum Corda, 1898. He is also the author of several prose works. His hymn, "Father almighty, trembling I bow to Thee" (Holy Trinity), in Sursum Corda, 1898, No. 314, is dated 1867. [Rev. L. F. Orson Pratt Huish

1851 - 1932 Person Name: Orson Pratt Huish, 1851–1932 Meter: 6.4.6.4.6.6.6.4 Author of "Guide Me to Thee" in Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Born: September 9, 1851, Blaenavon, Monmouth, Wales. Died: December 4, 1932, Payson, Utah. Buried: Payson, Utah. At age nine, Huish emigrated with his mother and siblings to join his father in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1861, the family went to the Utah Territory and settled in Payson, where Huish worked in farming and ranching as a youth. He later ran general stores times in Moab, Utah; Eugene, Oregon; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also opened Huish Drug. Huish was a composer, but was also trained in commercial photography, making some contributions in this field and operating the firm Huish and Hinshaw. They did most of their work in Utah and Arizona. In 1880, Huish formed the "Huish Band" with his brothers Edward, Joseph, Frank, James, and Frederick, and their sister Florette. They traveled throughout the Utah Territory, often performing for dances. Huish had been trained to perform in a band with another Payson resident, John D. Stark. Huish wrote over 300 songs, most of which are unpublished. He also write the Payson High School song, "The Silver and the Green." --www.hymntime.org/tch

Son of an artist, Foster attended Brighton and Guildford Grammar School and entered the stock exchange. He subsequently enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music and played the organ at St. James Church, Marylebone, and St. George’s, Campden Hill. From 1880-92 he was organist at the Foundling Hospital and at Her Majesty’s Theatre, and was choirmaster of St. James, Holborn. He composed children’s cantatas and much church music.
