Forrest M. McCann

1931 - 2020 Person Name: Forest M. McCann Hymnal Number: 29 Author of "Jesus, Wonderful Thou Art" in Into Our Hands Forrest Mason McCann (b. Lometa, Texas, October 12, 1931; d. November 23, 2020) was a historian of church hymnology and a professor of English at Abilene Christian University (Abilene, Texas) from 1968 to 1996. McCann served as an editor of two editions of E. L. Jorgenson's *Great Songs of the Church* and was editor-in-chief of *Great Songs of the Church, Revised*, published by ACU Press. He was educated at Florida Christian College (Temple Terrace, Florida; A.A., 1950), the University of Florida (B.A., 1952; M.A., 1966), and Texas Tech University (Ph.D., 1980). McCann also authored *Hymns and History* which provides background on each hymn, author, and composer in the hymnal he edited. Monty Lynn

(Hiram Cleveland) Finley was born in Sharp County, Arkansas April 2, 1884. his parents were Stephen and Mary Amelia Moody Finley. In 1909 he was married to Lucy Edna Mason, daughter of a music teacher. To them were born six children. He preached and taught singing schools in several states for more than 40 years. He has had songs published in several books. His most popular song is "There's Only One Way." Other songs are "No Wonder You're Sad," "Sinner, Put Your Trust in Jesus," and Glory and Honor Be To Christ." He died February 17, 1970. His wife died June 26, 1976.
