Mrs. Susie May Patterson Wyburn

1880 - 1958 Person Name: Susie May Patterson Wyburn Hymnal Number: 10341 Author of "What A Precious Savior" in The Cyber Hymnal May was a volunteer at the Bowery Mission in New York when she met John H. Wyburn, who was then superintendent of the Mission. John Wyburn later became assistant superintendent and then superintendent of the McAuley Water Street Mission. She wrote the book, But Until Seventy Times Seven (New York, 1936) a story of the mission through the lives of its three early leaders. (Montreal, Quebec, April 7, 1861--January 19, 1944, Quebec City). Anglican. Bishop's University (Lennoxville, Que.), B.A., 1881; M.A., 1884; D.C.I., 1901. Pastorates (all in Quebec) at Montreal, 1884-1886; Drummondville, 1887-1896; Quebec, 1896-1933. During his time as Canadian Army chaplain on the Western Front (1914-1919), he formed close ties with thousands of soldiers, whose subsequent dispersal all across Canada ensured a warm reception for his writings, and his message. 1858 - 1931 Person Name: William Alfred Bartlett Hymnal Number: 13121 Composer of "OAK PARK" in The Cyber Hymnal William Alfred Bartlett, D.D. was born February 17, 1858 in Chicago. He was the son of Dr. Samuel Colcord Bartlett who was founder and professor of The Chicago Theological Seminary and later president of Dartmouth College. William was a student in the preparatory department of North Western University, Evanston, and later at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. He received a MA from Dartmouth and a DD from Hartford Theological Seminary. He was pastor of three Congregational Churches in Chicago, the Farmington Avenue Congregational Church in Hartford, and the Pine Street Congregational Church in Lewiston, Maine. He was an accomplished preacher and organizer, involved in both the church and the community. He also was a musician and composer.
