When at This Table

Author: Shirley Erena Murray Hymnal: Glory to God #537 (2013) Meter: 11.10.11.10 Scripture: 1 Peter 4:8-11 First Line: When at this table I receive a blessing Lyrics: 1 When at this table I receive a blessing, the broken bread, the wine of life for me, then let me share the peace with you, my neighbor, and let the Spirit set our spirits free. 2 If at this table I have need of healing, unbidden grief, relationship gone wrong, then let me know the hands of God enfolding, and let lament become believing song. 3 If at this table I forget the hungry, the dispossessed and warfare’s spreading stain, then let this bread become the bread of judgment, this wine the sharp awareness of that pain. 4 If at this table I make dedication to give my life in serving what is good, then let my center be where God invites me, and show the words of Jesus understood. 5 What faith I have, I bring to join this table, what hope I hold, in Christ is taught and true; with brothers, sisters, I will share the blessing, the feast where God is making all things new. Christ Has Changed the World's Direction

Author: Shirley Erena Murray, 1931- Hymnal: Community of Christ Sings #356 (2013) Meter: 8.7.8.7.6.7 Scripture: 1 Peter 4:8-11 First Line: Christ has changed the world's direction! Lyrics: 1 Christ has changed the world's direction! Christ can change the human heart: agents of the new creation mend the people torn part; so are we charged to be go-betweens for unity. 2 Peace will be our way of thinking: common wealth and common state. Gone the wounds, the words and weapons that conspire to hurt and hate, and no power shall devour earth or air where peace might flower. 3 Debts and doubts will be forgiven, canceled in the name of God, olive trees again be planted there where soldiers' boots have trod, hunger fed, terror fled, justice shining in its stead. 4 What have we as commendation, sent to speak, as speak we must? Love will be our global language, hands an enemy can trust, faith to faith, race with race, all shall find a meeting place. 5 Envoys of a high commission, gifts of hope we find to share, Christ the Spirit reconciling, Christ our internet of care. Though we stall, fail or fall, shall we now refuse God's call? Topics: Call/Calling; Change; Diversity; Justice; Mission; Peace; Reconciliation; Responsibility; Trust; Unity Languages: English Tune Title: MICHAEL
