Here at thy cross, my dying God

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 115 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 2 Lyrics: Here at thy cross, my dying God, I lay my soul beneath thy love, Beneath the droppings of thy blood, Jesus, nor shall it e'er remove. Not all that tyrants think or say, With rage and lightning in their eyes, Nor hell shall fright my heart away, Should hell with all its legions rise. Should worlds conspire to drive me thence, Moveless and firm this heart should lie; Resolved, (for that's my last defence,) If I must perish, there to die. But speak, my Lord, and calm my fear; Am I not safe beneath thy shade? Thy vengeance will not strike me here, Nor Satan dares my soul invade. Yes, I'm secure beneath thy blood, And all my foes shall lose their aim: Hosannah to my dying God, And my best honors to his name. Fear not, O little flock, the foe

Author: Altenburg Appears in 106 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 2:2-5 Lyrics: 1 Fear not, O little flock, the foe Who madly seeks your overthrow; Dread not his rage and power: What though your courage sometimes faints His seeming triumph o'er God's saints Lasts but a little hour. 2 Be of good cheer; your cause belongs To him who can avenge your wrongs; Leave it to him, our Lord! Though hidden yet from all our eyes, He sees the Gideon that shall rise To save us, and his word. 3 As true as God's own word is true, Not earth nor hell with all their crew Against us shall prevail; A jest and byword are they grown; God is with us, we are his own, Our victory can not fail! 4 Amen, Lord Jesus, grant our prayer! Great Captain, now thine arm make bare, Fight for us once again! So shall thy saints and martyrs raise A mighty chorus to thy praise, World without end: Amen! Great God, I own thy sentence just

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 90 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 2 Lyrics: Great God, I own thy sentence just, And nature must decay; I yield my body to the dust, To dwell with fellow clay. Yet faith may triumph o'er the grave, And trample on the tombs My Jesus, my Redeemer, lives; My God, my Savior, comes. The mighty Conqueror shall appear High on a royal seat, And death, the last of all his foes, Lie vanquished at his feet. Though greedy worms devour my skin, And gnaw my wasting flesh, When God shall build my bones again, He clothes them all afresh. Then shall I see thy lovely face With strong immortal eyes; And feast upon thy unknown grace With pleasure and suprise.

On your far hills, long cold and gray, Has dawned the everlasting day. 4 Shores of the utmost West, Ye that have waited long, Unvisited, unblest, Break forth to swelling song; High raise the note, that Jesus died, Yet lives and reigns, the Crucified. 5 Shout, while ye journey home; Songs be in every mouth; Lo, from the North we come, From East, and West, and South. I cannot tell

Author: William Young Fullerton, 1857-1932 Meter: 11.10.11.10.11.10.11.12 Appears in 34 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 2:8 First Line: I cannot tell how he whom angels worship Lyrics: 1 I cannot tell how he whom angels worship should stoop to love the peoples of the earth, or why as shepherd he should seek the wand'rer with his mysterious promise of new birth. But this I know, that he was born of Mary when Bethl'em's manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and laboured, and so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come. 2 I cannot tell how silently he suffered, as with his peace he graced this place of tears, or how his heart upon the cross was broken, the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted, and stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear, and lifts the burden from the heavy laden, for still the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here. 3 I cannot tell how he will win the nations, how he will claim his earthly heritage, how satisfy the needs and aspirations of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory, and he shall reap the harvest he has sown, and some glad day his sun will shine in splendour when he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known. 4 I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship, when, at his bidding, ev'ry storm is stilled, or who can say how great the jubilation when ev'ry heart with perfect love is filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture, and myriad, myriad human voices sing, and earth to heav'n and heav'n to earth, will answer: 'At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!'
