1820 - 1901 Person Name: WIlliam McDonald Hymnal Number: d27 Author of "I am trusting, Lord, in thee" in Zion's Praise McDonald, Rev. William. (Belmont, Maine, March 1, 1820--September 11, 1901, Monrovia, California). Becoming a local preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1839 he was admitted to the Maine Conference in 1843, being transferred to that of Wisconsin in 1855 and of New England in 1859. For a number of years he was editor of the Advocate of Christian Holiness. In addition to being a writer of biographies and religious books, he compiled, or assisted in compiling, a number of song books of the gospel song type, among them being the Western Minstrel (1840), Wesleyan Minstrel (1853), Beulah Songs (1870), Tribute of Praise (1874). This last book was that which had been compiled by McDonald and L.F. Snow, and re-edited by Eben Tourjée, appeared in 1882 as the official hymnal of the Methodist Protestant Church. From 1870 he spent many years in evangelistic work before his retirement to Monrovia. Died: July 18, 1918, Athens, Georgia. Buried: Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens, Georgia. Vaughan was a Gospel song writer and music publisher. At one time he taught at the Southern Development Normal music school in Waco, Texas. 1830 - 1924 Hymnal Number: d100 Author of "Triumph by and by" in Zion's Praise Blackall, Christopher Ruby, M.D., born in New York State, 1830, and educated for the medical profession. For 15 years he followed his profession, including service in the army during the civil war. Subsequently he managed, for 14 years, a branch of the Baptist Publication Society, taking at the same time great interest in Sunday School work. He edited the Advanced Bible Lesson Quarterly, for 3 years, and also Our Little Ones. 1. The prize is set before us. Heaven anticipated. This is one of Dr. Blackall's most popular hymns for children. It was written in 1874 for the Sunday School of 2nd Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois, and set to music by H. R. Palmer. It first appeared in Palmer's Songs of Love for the Bible School, 1874, from whence it has passed into numerous collections, including I. D. Sankey's Sacred Songs and Solos, Lond., 1881. 2. Jefferson Hascall

1807 - 1887 Hymnal Number: d65 Author of "Angel band" in Zion's Praise Rv Jefferson Hascall USA 1807-1887. Born in Thompson, CT, he studied at Wilbraham Academy was ordained into the Methodist Church in 1829. He later became a minister and presiding elder over the Worcester Conference. He twice represented New England in the church's General Conference. He was considered an eloquent and powerful speaker and was considered responsible for the conversion over 150 people. Notice of his preaching engagements would fill the seats. He lived in Shrewsbury, MA, about 20 years and was also a public-spirited citizen and was universally respected. He favored education and the suppression of slavery. He married Julia Catherine Griswold in 1832, and after her death in 1842, Lavina Livermore in 1843, and they had seven children: Stephen, Julia, Martha, Henry, Emily, Wilbur, and Lee. James Henry Stanley

1869 - 1954 Person Name: James H. Stanley Hymnal Number: d11 Author of "Prepare to meet thy God" in Zion's Praise James Henry Stanley, Feb. 2,1869 - June 1, 1954, was a singing school teacher, band director and hymn composer. He died in Saltillo, Miss., where he had been a resident for 60 years.He is buried at Springhill Presbyterian Church in Lee County.
