Henry Mills

1786 - 1867 Person Name: H. Mills Author of "King to Jews and Gentiles given" in Hymns and Songs for the Sunday School Mills, Henry, D.D., son of John Mills, was born at Morriston, New Jersey, March 12, 1786, and educated at the New Jersey College, Princeton, where he graduated in 1802. After being engaged in teaching for some time at Morristown and elsewhere, he was ordained Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge, New Jersey, in 1816. On the opening of the Auburn Theological Seminary in 1821, he was appointed Professor of Biblical Criticism and Oriental Languages, from which he retired in 1854. He died at Auburn, June 10, 1867. In 1845 he published Horae Germanicae; A Version of German Hymns. This was enlarged in 1856. The translations are not well done, and very few are now in common use, although 18 and 9 doxologies were given in the Lutheran General Synod's Collection, 1850. John Richards

b. 1939 Author of "Father God, the Lord, Creator" in Complete Mission Praise John Richards (b. Bournemouth, Hampshire, England, 1939) received his education at St. John's College in Durham, Emmanuel College in Cambridge, England, and Queen's College in Birmingham, England. Having served as the curate at several parishes in southern England and as a school chaplain, he is currently the director of Renewal Services, a parachurch organization. S. J. Hedborn

1783 - 1849 Person Name: S. J. Hedborn, d. 1849 Author of "Än ett år uti sitt sköte" in Svenska Psalm-Boken af År 1819 Samuel Johan Hedborn, born 14 October 1783 in Kolstad, Heda parish in Östergötland, died 26 December 1849 in Assjö rectory in Askeryds parish, Jönköping in Småland, was a Swedish writer, wise and hymn writer. Hedborn was born in a soldier in the village Kolstad out on Östgötaslätten and had all his youth and first study in Linköping and then at Uppsala University 1806 - in 1809 a struggle against poverty, was ordained last year. After his ordination, he was first a curate in Östergötland same year, teachers in Stockholm in 1812 and extraordinary court preacher in 1815. In Uppsala and Stockholm , he became good friends with many Swedish romantic, including Atterbom, which also had its roots in Östergötland and northern Småland. Hedborn became one of the Aurora League's founders and helped in Phosphoros and Poetic calendar, where he published a number of poems, some of which Lullaby (Ute summer breeze blowing) is probably his best known. 1810-14 Hedborn suffered from depression, which at times made him unable to attend to his duties. During this time he developed into religious poet and published two collections of Psalms (1812-13). After a long silence gathered Hedborn his poems in memory and poetry, beginning of an autobiography, which is mostly about his childhood. Samuel Johan Hedborns collected writings were published with biography of Per Daniel Amadeus Atterbom in two bands in 1853. He was vicar in his mother's home parish Askeryd in Linköping diocese from 1820 until his death, where Hedborn also is buried at Askeryds church during a cast iron cross. Hedborn is represented in the 1986 hymnal with original texts of five works (No 120, 132, 329, 347 and 391) and processing/translation of a hymn (No. 104). Moorsom (1831-1911) Translator of "Thou, Who on the Cross at noontide" in A Missionary Hymn Book Moorsom, Robert Maude, M.A., son of Admiral Moorsom, was born at Cosgrove Priory, Feb. 2, 1831, and educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A., 1854; M.A., 1858. Taking Holy Orders in 1857, he was Curate of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, 1857-59; Barnham-Broom, Norfolk, 1861; and Rector of Sadberge, Durham, 1861-81. Mr. Moorsom published in 1889 A Historical Companion to Hymns Ancient and Modern. He has also edited a pamphlet on The Writers of Hymns Ancient & Modern, according to their Churches, and contributed to the 1889 Supplemental Hymns to Hymns Ancient & Modern. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907) ================== Moorsom, R.
