Eduard Kremser

1838 - 1914 Person Name: Edward Kremser, 1838-1914 Scripture: Psalm 19:14 Arranger of "KREMSER" in Worship and Rejoice Eduard Kremser was born 10 October 1838 in Vienna and died 26 November 1914 in Vienna. He was a choir director, conductor, composer and musicologist. He was the arranger of the music for male voices in Sechs altniederländische Volkslieder, a collection of six Dutch folk songs from Adriaan Valerius' collection Nederlandtsche gedenck-clanck. From this collection comes the tune which is named after him and is sung with the English text "We Gather Together." He also edited and arranged a 3 volume set of German and Austrian folk music: Wiener Lieder und Tänze: im Auftrage der Gemeindevertretimg der Stadt Wien (published 1912-1925) as well as other volumes of folk music. Juan Bautista Cabrera Ivars

1837 - 1916 Person Name: J. B. Cabrera Scripture: Psalm 19 Author of "Las Santas Escrituras" in Himnos de Gloria Juan Bautista Cabrera Ivars was born in Benisa, Spain, April 23, 1837. He attended seminary in Valencia, studying Hebrew and Greek, and was ordained as a priest. He fled to Gibraltar in 1863 due to religious persecution where he abandoned Catholicism. He worked as a teacher and as a translator. One of the works he translated was E.H. Brown's work on the thirty-nine articles of the Anglican Church, which was his introduction to Protestantism. He was a leader of a Spanish Reformed Church in Gibraltar. He continued as a leader in this church when he returned to Spain after the government of Isabel II fell, but continued to face legal difficulties. He then organized the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church and was consecrated as bishop in 1894. He recognized the influence of music and literature on evangelism which led him to write and translate hymns. John T. Grape

1835 - 1915 Person Name: J. T. Grape Scripture: Psalm 19 Composer of "[Padre, tu palabra es]" in Himnos de Gloria John Thomas Grape USA 1835-1915. Born at Baltimore, MD, he became a successful coal merchant. He married Sophia F MacCubbin, and they had one daughter, Agnes. He was a member of Monument St. Methodist Church in Baltimore, where he played the organ, directed the choir, and was active in the Sunday school. Later, he directed the choir at the Hartford Avenue Methodist Church. The hymn noted below was composed by Grape in 1868, with lyrics composed by Envina Mable Hall of the same church in 1865 while sitting in the choir loft during a sermon. Both words and music had been given to the pastor, Rev George W Schreck, at different times, and one day he remembered he had been given both. Grape's tune had a refrain, so Ms Hall, hearing it, then added words to her poem for that, and the hymn was complete. At Schreck's urging they sent the hymn to Professor Theodore Perkins, publisher of “Sabbath Carols” periodical, and it became popular. Grape died in Baltimore. John Perry

Patrick Wedd

1948 - 2019 Person Name: Patrick Wedd (b. 1948) Scripture: Psalm 19 Composer of "GIBSON" in Church Hymnary (4th ed.) Patrick Wedd was an organist and choral conductor. He was born in Simcoe, Ontario. By the age of twelve he was organist and choir director in his church. He studied at the University of Toronto and U.B.C. He was music director at Vancouver's Christ Church Cathedral. In 1986 he moved to Montreal and served at Church os Saint Andrew and Saint Paul from 1986-1992, at the Church of St. John the Evangelist from 1992-1996, and at Christ Church Cathedral from 1996 to 2018. U. C. Burnap

1834 - 1900 Person Name: Uzziah C. Burnap Scripture: Psalm 19 Arranger of "ARTHUR'S SEAT" in Psalter Hymnal (Blue) Burnap ran a dry goods business in Brooklyn, though he graduated from the University of Paris with a music degree, and for 37 years played the organ at the Reformed Church in Brooklyn Heights. He was a prolific composer, and helped edit the following: Hymns of the Church, 1869 Hymns of Prayer and Praise, 1871 Hymns and Songs of Praise, 1874 --The Cyber Hymnal™ There is uncertainty about his middle name. Reynolds and the Library of Congress say it was Christopher. A contemporary obituary relied on by "The Cyber Hymnal™" says it was Cicero. It appears that there was another Uzziah C[icero] Burnap who lived (per LOC) 1794-1854.
