James Oren Thompson

1834 - 1917 Person Name: J. O. Thompson Hymnal Number: 147 Author of "The Call for Reapers" in Foursquare Hymnal of Standard Songs of Evangelism Born June 9, 1834 in Waldo, ME. He was a minister before joining the army and fighting in the Civil War. After the war he joined the Methodist Episcopal Maine Conference in 1866. He transferred to the Providence, RI conference and retired in 1886. He moved to Keyser, WV and edited The Mountain Echo. He then moved to Charleston, WV and served as secretary of the Agriculture. William Shrubsole

1760 - 1806 Hymnal Number: 113 Composer of "MILES' LANE" in Foursquare Hymnal of Standard Songs of Evangelism William Shrubsole (bap. 1760, d. 1806), organist. United Kingdom.When young, he sang in the choir at Canterbury Cathedral, He became organist at Bangor Cathedral, when he was dismissed for attending non-comformist meetings. He then became organist of Spa Fields Chapel, London, holding that post until his death. He was a successful teacher. He was an alto singer and sung at Westminster Abbey and Drury Lane churches. He knew Edward Perronet, who wrote the words to the hymn he composed music for. Perronet left Schrubsole property in his will. John Perry Not to be confused with W. (William) Shrubsole 1759-1829 bank clerk and hymn writer.
