b. 1962 Scripture: Psalm 32 Adapter of "[Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven]" in Christian Worship PAVLECHKO, THOMAS (b. 1962) is the Cantor and Composer-in-Residence at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. Named the Emerging Hymn Tune Composer by HSUSC in 2002, his sacred music compositions, hymn tunes, choral, orchestral and concert band works are widely performed. He is the co-editor of the principal worship planning reference books of the Episcopal Church U.S.A, ,cite>Liturgical Music for the Revised Common Lectionary. His collection of over 600 Psalm settings, St. Martin’s Psalter, is published in two editions with Augsburg Fortress Publishers and St. James Music Press. Pavlechko is a graduate of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, both in his native Ohio. 1926 - 2024 Scripture: Psalm 32 Author of "Happy are those, beyond all measure blessed" in Praise! psalms hymns and songs for Christian worship Timothy Dudley-Smith (b. 1926) Educated at Pembroke College and Ridley Hall, Cambridge, Dudley-Smith has served the Church of England since his ordination in 1950. He has occupied a number of church posi­tions, including parish priest in the diocese of Southwark (1953-1962), archdeacon of Norwich (1973-1981), and bishop of Thetford, Norfolk, from 1981 until his retirement in 1992. He also edited a Christian magazine, Crusade, which was founded after Billy Graham's 1955 London crusade. Dudley-Smith began writing comic verse while a student at Cambridge; he did not begin to write hymns until the 1960s. Many of his several hundred hymn texts have been collected in Lift Every Heart: Collected Hymns 1961-1983 (1984), Songs of Deliverance: Thirty-six New Hymns (1988), and A Voice of Singing (1993). The writer of Christian Literature and the Church (1963), Someone Who Beckons (1978), and Praying with the English Hymn Writers (1989), Dudley-Smith has also served on various editorial committees, including the committee that published Psalm Praise (1973). Buryl Red

1936 - 2013 Scripture: Psalm 32:1 Composer of "RIDGECREST" in Baptist Hymnal 1991 Born in Little Rock, Ark., Red earned his bachelor's degree in church music from Baylor University in 1957. While a student, he was involved in the Baylor Religious Hour Choir and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia national professional music fraternity. He also received a degree from Yale University in 1961 and as of 2007 resided in New York City. Red was described by The Washington Post as "uncommonly creative," with his musical works as a composer, conductor, producer and arranger heard in such diverse venues as Carnegie Hall, "Saturday Night Live" and thousands of schools, churches and theaters around the world. He had more than 1,600 published compositions and arrangements, produced more than 2,500 recordings and supervised, composed or arranged the music for several hundred shows, documentaries and musical specials for network and cable television. Several of Red's choral works including "Celebrate Life" and the first performing edition of Pergolesi's Magnificat are considered landmarks in their fields. He served as executive record producer for some of the most widely used music textbooks in the United States, including the recent Silver Burdett Making Music series and was honored with the inclusion of his well-known song, "In Remembrance," in The African-American Heritage Hymnal published in 2001. He was also honored with many civic and professional awards and degrees. Red served as musical director of The CenturyMen, an auditioned men's chorus of professional musicians who are directors of music in Baptist churches across America and from around the world. He died April 1, 2013.
