Johann Georg Frech

1790 - 1864 Person Name: J. G. Frech Scripture: Psalm 66:1-4 Composer of "ASPURG" in The Presbyterian Book of Praise Johann Georg Frech (* January 17 1790 in Kaltental, † August 23 1864 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a German music director, composer and organist. Naughty was the son of a watchmaker and organ builder. He visited here until his 13th Age of the school, then high school in Stuttgart and took lessons in music. In 1806 he was teaching assistant in Degerloch while still in Stuttgart, studied music. In 1811 he went as a teaching assistant after Esslingen and in 1812 a music teacher at the newly established Esslinger teacher seminar. In 1820 he received the office of a municipal director of music and organist at the main church in Esslingen, where he remained until his retirement in 1860. His successor was Christian Fink. Naughty took a significant role in the Württemberg church singing together with Konrad Kocher and Friedrich Silcherstraße one. Together with the aforementioned He created "The Württemberg Choral Book" of 1828 and was co-editor of "Württemberg Choral Book" of 1844. Frech has composed six symphonies, many choral works, including 22 chorales for Württembergischen chorale books, 67 cantatas, an opera, the oratorio "Abraham on Moriah" and some organ works. Jack Schrader

b. 1942 Person Name: Jack Schrader, 1942- Scripture: Psalm 66:2 Arranger of "CANTAD AL SEÑOR" in Worship and Rejoice JACK SCHRADER (b. 1942), arranger, composer, conductor, vocalist, and organist/pianist, is past editor with Hope Publishing Company, retiring in January of 2009. His association with Hope began in 1978. A 1964 graduate of Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, where he majored in Voice and Organ, he also received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Nebraska (1966). Further studies in theology culminated in Jack's ordination by the Evangelical Free Church of America (1975). Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he now resides in Wheaton, Illinois, with his wife, Karen. They have three children, Beth, Jonathan and Joel, and currently three grandchildren. Jack is the best selling choral composer in the Hope catalog. In addition to choral music Jack has published collections for keyboardists, instrumentalists and vocal soloists. He was a member of the editorial committee for Hope's most recent hymnal, WORSHIP & REJOICE (2001), in which he has 24 hymn credits. Rich Mullins

Scripture: Psalm 66:3 Author of "Awesome God" in Worship and Rejoice Richard Wayne "Rich" Mullins (October 21, 1955 – September 19, 1997) was an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter born in Richmond, Indiana. He had two sisters and two brothers. Mullins was best known for his worship songs "Awesome God" and "Sometimes by Step", both of which have been embraced as modern classics by many Christians. Some of his albums were also considered among Christian music's best, including Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth (1988), The World As Best As I Remember It, Volume One (1991) and A Liturgy, A Legacy, & A Ragamuffin Band (1993). His songs have been performed by numerous artists, including Caedmon's Call, Five Iron Frenzy, Amy Grant, Carolyn Arends, Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, John Tesh, Chris Rice, Rebecca St. James, Hillsong United and Third Day. Rich Mullins is also remembered for his devotion to the Christian faith. He was heavily influenced by St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226). Jacques Berthier

1923 - 1994 Person Name: Jacques Berthier, 1923-1994 Scripture: Psalm 66:8 Composer of "[Laudate Dominum]" in Community of Christ Sings Jacques Berthier (b. Auxerre, Burgundy, June 27, 1923; d. June 27, 1994) A son of musical parents, Berthier studied music at the Ecole Cesar Franck in Paris. From 1961 until his death he served as organist at St. Ignace Church, Paris. Although his published works include numerous compositions for organ, voice, and instruments, Berthier is best known as the composer of service music for the Taizé community near Cluny, Burgundy. Influenced by the French liturgist and church musician Joseph Gelineau, Berthier began writing songs for equal voices in 1955 for the services of the then nascent community of twenty brothers at Taizé. As the Taizé community grew, Berthier continued to compose most of the mini-hymns, canons, and various associated instrumental arrangements, which are now universally known as the Taizé repertoire. William T. Moore

(Henry County, Kentucky, August 27, 1832--September 7, 1926, Orland, Florida) Disciple. A "cosmopolitan," he gained denominational fame for his liberal attitude toward the validity of non-immersionist forms of baptism during his tenure at minister of an independent congregation in London. Member of the five-man committee that produced the 1865 Christian Hymn Book (also appointed to a similar committee chosen to make the 1882 Christian Hymnal, Revised, but, being in London, was unable to serve); both books include his "Let every heart and tongue," "Listen to the gospel, telling," "Love of God, all love excelling," "O that I had wings like a dove," and "Thy kingdom, gracious Lord." J. Edwin Orr

1912 - 1987 Scripture: Psalm 66:8-12 Author of "Mi corazón, oh examina hoy" in Celebremos Su Gloria Rv James Edwin Orr MA ThD EdD PhD United Kingdom/USA. Born at Belfast, Northern Ireland, son of a jeweler with both British and American citizenship (so his children did as well), he studied at the College of Technology, Belfast, Ireland. After spending some years as a baker, he began evangelizing in Britian and in Europe. In 1937 he married Ivy Carol Carlson, and they had a daughter: Eileen. After their marriage, the Orrs evangelized in Australia (1939), China, Canada, South America, and the U.S. In 1939 he enrolled at Northwest University, and in 1940 was ordained into the Baptist Christian ministry at Newark, NJ. He received a MA from Northwest University in 1941 and a ThD from Northern Baptist Seminary in 1943. During WWII he served as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force in the Pacific region. During these years he also wrote several accounts of his preaching tours. After the war he continued his studies and took his PhD at Oxford University in 1948, with his thesis on the second evangelical awakening in Britain. In 1949 he and his wife made the U.S. their permanent base and continued to travel the world promoting church revival and renewal. They evangelized in 150 countries on several continents. In 1966 he became a professor at the School of World Missions, Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA. In 1971 he received his EdD degree from UCLA. He remained at Fuller until 1981., and as professor emeritus thereafter. He also received honorary degrees from an Indian seminary and the university of South Africa. Billy Graham wrote: “Dr J Edwn Orr, in my opinion, is one of the greatest authorities on the history of religious revivals in the Protestant world.” From 1951 on he was influential in Campus Crusade for Christ, and was one of its five original board members. He authored 40+ works, mostly on revival work. He also wrote a few hymn lyrics. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the American Geographical Society, the Royal Historical Society, and the Royal Society of Literature. He died at Ridgecrest, NC.
