Your light has come; God's glory breaks like dawn. For though the earth be cloaked in night and gloom shrouds everyone, yet over you the Lord will rise, with glory gleaming clear, till nations turn to seek your light and humbled kings draw near. 2 Fling wide your gates, both day and night; no more keep watch or guard. You will be called God's holy hill, the city of the Lord. No sound of strife will plague your land, nor harm besiege your ways; "Salvation" will you name your walls, and all your portals "Praise." 3 No more will you implore the sun to shed by day its light, nor will you need the changeful moon to glisten through the night. Your glory then will be your God, whose light will never cease. Rise up and shine! Your light has come to give you joy and peace. We Walk Today in Darkness

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 9:2 First Line: We walk today in darkness, Lyrics: We walk today in darkness, each waiting for the light of Love that works for justice and seeks to make things right. We wait, sometimes forgetting we do not wait alone, that others long for justice and blessings yet unknown. We walk today in darkness, our purpose unfulfilled. We do not do for others the good that God has willed. We do not offer kindness to those who wait in need, nor justice to our neighbors in every word and deed. We walk today in darkness, our vain hearts filled with shame. We follow our own footsteps and not the Spirit's flame. Self-love bedims our vision, self-interest clouds our sight, and good intentions vanish like shadows in the night. Lord Jesus, light our darkness; with joy dispel our gloom. Prepare us to receive you, and in our lives make room for humble, loving-kindness, for just and honest ways, that we might walk together in Love-illumined days. Topics: Prayer Paraphrase of General Confession Used With Tune: BARDSLEY

Nations, that long in Darkness walk'd

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 9 Lyrics: 2. Nations, that long in Darkness walk'd,. Have now beheld a glorious Light; On them, who dwelt in Shades of Death, The Light hath shined heav'nly bright. 6. For lo! the Virgin's Child is born, To us the Son of God is giv'n; Upon his Shoulders shall be lay'd The Government of Earth, and Heav'n; His Name is called Wonderfull, The Counsellour, the mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace: Peace dearly purchas'd with his Blood. 7. His Government shall know no Bounds, But far and wide, o'er all extend; And happy Peace, the glorious Fruits Of his just Reign, shall know no End. O'er David's Kingdom, on his Throne, To rule, and stablish it secure; With Judgment clear, and Justice right, His Reign forever shall endure.
