Mancehster, 1851 Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal, ====================== Born: October 21, 1801, Trier, Germany. Died: November 10, 1851, Higher Broughton (near Manchester), England. Mainzer was educated at the Maîtrise of Trier Cathedral. Having studied engineering, he worked in mines at Saarbrücken, but was ordained in 1826 and after a few years became an abbé. He left Germany in 1833 for political reasons, settling in Brussels, then Paris, and Britain in 1839, living first in Edinburgh, then, after 1847, in Manchester. He published the Musical Times and Singing Circular. Novello took over the publication in 1844, renaming it the Musical Times. Buried: Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, Berkshire, England. Lloyd attended Thornbury Grammar School and Rossall School, and was a Scholar of Magdalen School, Hertford College, Oxford (BMus 1871, BA 1872, MA 175, DMus 1891). He served as organist at Gloucester Cathedral (1876); Christ Church, Oxford (1882, succeeding Samuel Wesley); precentor of Eton College (1892); organist of the Chapel Royal (1914); and editor of Church Hymns (1903). 1841 - 1906 Person Name: E. H. J. Composer of "LEHMANN" in Songs of Praise Johnson, Elias Henry, D.D., has been since 1882 Professor of Systematic Theology in Croser Baptist Theo. Seminary, Chester, Pa. He was born at Troy, N.Y., Oct. 15, 1841, and graduated at Rochester. After acting for two years as assistant paymaster in the U.S. Navy he was ordained to the Baptist Ministry, and served in several pastorates. He edited Songs of Praise for Sunday Schools, 1882; was assistant editor of the Baptist Hymnal, 1883; and also editor of Our Sunday School Songs, 1885, and Sursum Corda, 1898. He is also the author of several prose works. His hymn, "Father almighty, trembling I bow to Thee" (Holy Trinity), in Sursum Corda, 1898, No. 314, is dated 1867. [Rev. L. F.
