1841 - 1891 Hymnal Number: d17 Author of "In our work and in our play, Jesus, ever with us stay" in God's Singing Children Wills, Whitefield Glanville, son of the late H. O. Wills, of Bristol, was b. at Bristol Oct. 28, 1841, and died at Ealing Oct. 2, 1891. In 1881 he printed a small collection of original Hymns for Occasional Use. Three of his hymns are in School Hymns, 1891:— 1. Father, Thy children come to-night. [Evening.] Written about 1876; 1881 as above, p. 24. 2. In our work and in our play, Jesus, ever with us stay. [Children of God.] Written in Sept. 1891 for School Hymns, 1891, No. 335. 3. We bring to Thee, dear Saviour. [Trust in Jesus.] Written about 1880; 1881 as above, p. 9. The School Hymns, 1891, also contains a hymn by his wife, Lucy Helen née Hebblethwaite, which begins "Always with Thee I Ever near!" (Trust in God). [Rev. Govan served in World War I, then worked in Kenya for several years. 1904 - 2004 Hymnal Number: d2 Author of "The little lost lamb" in God's Singing Children Cross, Frank LeRoy. (Oklahoma, 1904- ). Evangelical United Brethren. Graduated from United Theological Seminary, Dayton. Pastor in Oklahoma, editor of Lorenz Publishing Co., Dayton. Winner of the Hymn Society of America contest for hymns based on the Bible, with "Go forth, strong word of God," issued at the time of the introduction of the Revised Standard Version. Has written other hymns for various denominations. --Ellen Jane Lorenz, DNAH Archives ========================= Frank Cross is a member of the faculty of Bonebrake Theological Seminary, an institution of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. He is a graduate of Oklahoma City University and had theological training at Bonebrake Seminary. He was the pastor of the First United Brethren Church in Oklahoma City from 1934 to 1946. He has written a number of hymns for the services of his own congregation, and some of these have been used elsewhere.
