Beaumont, Sir John, elder brother of Francis Beaumont, the dramatic writer, born in 1582, and educated at Oxford. In 1626 he was created a baronet by King Charles I., died in 1628. His writings include, The Crown of Thorns, a poem in 8 books (not now known to exist); Bosworth Field and other Poems, 1629; and Poems on religious and political subjects. He is known to modern hymnals through one or two pieces only. His Poems have been reprinted by Dr. Grosart in his Fuller Worthies Library.
