6. Come, Blessed Comforter

1 Come, blessed Comforter; freely bestowing
Cleansing and liberty, gladness and light;
Let now the living tide rise, overflowing,
Shed thy refreshing, and strengthen me with might.

Refrain:
Come, blessed Comforter! Ling’ring so near;
Oh, let thy glory, and presence now appear.

2 Come, blessed Comforter; take full possession;
Seal thou the willing heart, yielded to thee;
Oft have I grieved thy love, ah, sad confession,
But in thy mercy impart thyself to me. [Refrain]

3 Come, blessed Comforter, never to leave me,
Thou hast inspired my pray’r, lift it to praise!
Faith claims the promised gift, springs to receive thee;
Spirit all holy dwell in me “all the days.” [Refrain]

4 Come, blessed Comforter; bring heav’n within me;
E’en now the songs of love joyfully roll;
From all alluring snares graciously win me;
To God be the glory! his blessing fills my soul. [Refrain]
