Text: | Joyfully, joyfully, onward I move |
Author: | William Hunter |
Tune: | HERE IS NO REST |
Composer: | Unknown |
1 Joyfully, joyfully, onward I move,
Bound for the land of bright glory above;
Angelic choristers sing as I come,
"Joyfully, joyfully, haste to thy home."
Soon shall I pass from this dark vale of woe,
Home to the land of the righteous I'll go;
Pilgrim and stranger, no more shall I roam,
Joyfully, joyfully, resting at home.
2 Friends fondly cherished now sleep in the ground,
But they'll awake when the last trump shall sound,
Loosed from Death's fetters, and upward we'll soar,
Joyfully meeting to part nevermore.
Sounds of sweet melody fall on the ear;
Harps of the blessed, your voices I'll hear
Filling with harmony heaven's high dome,
"Joyfully, joyfully, haste to thy home."
3 Death with his weapons of war has laid low
Many a pilgrim who feared not the blow;
Jesus has broken the bars of the tomb;
Joyfully, joyfully, will they come home.
Bright will the morn of eternity dawn,
Death shall be banished, his scepter be gone;
Joyfully, then, shall I witness his doom,
Joyfully, joyfully, safely at home.
