1 Spirit of the Only Wise,
Thou in whom all knowledge lies,
Reading all with searching eyes
Hear us, Holy Spirit.

2 Comforter, to whom we owe
All that we rejoice to know
Of our Saviour's work below,

3 Spirit, whom our failings grieve,
Whom the world will not receive,
Who dost help us to believe,

4 Spirit, guarding us from ill,
Bend aright our stubborn will;
Though we grieve thee, patient still
