70. Upward, Growing Upward

1 "Upward, growing upward," say the blooming flow'rs,
Rousing from the slumber of the snowy hours;
Aided by the dewdrops rain, and sunshine fair,
Kindly cheered and welcomed by the balmy air.
"Upward," sings the birdie, in his joyous flight,
Soaring, soaring gayly upward in the morning bright;
"Farewell, little blossoms, I must seek the blue,
Then I'll send a merry carol down to you.

Chorus:
Upward! upward! children, too, are singing
Upward! upward! happy voices ringing;
Upward! upward! glad hosannas bringing;
Like the birds and blossoms we will see the light.

2 We are growing upward, happy children say,
More and more like Jesus, growing ev'ry day;
Ever marching onward in the paths of light,
Trusting, sweetly trusting in the Saviour's might.
Jesus gives us sunshine, teaching like the dew.
Loves to see his children growing faithful, kind, and true;
Day by day we're marching to the home above,
Growing in the beauty of the Lord we love. [Chorus]
